Azalea Park in Summerville is a picturesque destination known for its stunning azalea flowers that bloom in the spring. The park features well-maintained walking trails, ponds, and sculptures, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll or a romantic picnic. Additionally, visitors can enjoy activities such as tennis on the courts or explore the Sawmill Branch Multi-Use Trail for biking and walking.

Beautiful park with lots of photo ops. There are 2 parts to the park, each unique in its own way. We felt like we were in the middle of a forest but there is always a road nearby. Right in the middle of beautiful historic downtown Summerville. Loved the turtle pond & the frog pond. The statues were adorable. The bridges were lovely. Safe park- we saw other people walking their dogs. Will definitely be back!

B. Lewis — Google review

This is a nice little park! Great for an evening stroll with that special someone. There are basically two halves to the park. Be prepared to see some turtles as they live in the many small "ponds" or troffs inside the park. Not a very large park, so don't expect to hike far or anything like that. Definitely worth checking out! Well kept for the most part. Please don't litter our parks such a horrible thing to do!

BillyBiggs614 — Google review

This is a beautiful little park, right in the heart of historic Summerville. The gardens are nice, the pathways lead you throughout the park...and don't forget to stop by the pond to see the turtles!

We we were at the Friday opening day of the Azelea Fair. It was a very pretty place to have a festival. We live in Sumerville and the park is a great place to come to if you wqnt to relax 0r get a refreshing workout You cannot go wrong..Plus it is loaded with the most beautiful Azelea through out the entire South, an aded Plus there are public restroom in the park and plenty of parking.

Timothy “Boots Keenan” Keenan — Google review

Lovely city park even when the azaleas aren't in bloom, with walking paths and a few benches in different areas. No restrooms. Ample parking. Park is a wee bit scruffy and scraggly and needs tending, but still worth a stop.

Cynthia Edmonds — Google review

Azalea Park was beautiful. If you’re looking for a nice stroll, I’d recommend this place. It’s a pretty backdrop for portraits or if you’re just looking to spend some time reading a book. Small statues throughout the park, flowers, and trees. You’ll see turtles swimming or basking hills n the pond. Not bc a big park, but dog friendly.

Melissa Leonard — Google review

One of my favorite places to exist with nature for a bit. Quiet, beautiful scenery, not many people, small path with plenty of places to sit. There is a turtle pond with a TON of turtles and a couple of gazebos. Definitely visit if you're in the area and have 30 minutes to spare.

Emily Collins — Google review

We visited the park for flower town festival. We had a great time. Lots of shops, lots and lots of artifacts and variety of food truck. Wonderful experience 💖

Anusha Jekay — Google review

What a lovely walk with surprises around every bend. The Azaleas & Camellias were in bloom and the many sculptures were beautiful. It’s easy to miss that the park is on both sides of the road, so be sure to visit it all.

Carol Thomas — Google review

My daughter, granddaughters and I decided to stop by Azalea Park in Summerville yesterday because my daughter is a wonderful photographer (of everything nature especially sunsets, anything she sees the beauty in) and she felt she could get some good shots. Wow she was right! The azaleas were in full bloom and so colourful! She got some really good pics of this beautiful park!

Kimberly Lathrop — Google review

The parking lot is small and tends to fill up on the weekends. There's another lot the next road over with restrooms that have decent access (heavy but wide doors) with 2 large single occupancy rooms with grab bars. There's lots of gravel and paved walking paths thru the grand oaks, cypress and pine trees. Benches dot the trails for plenty of places to rest, relax and watch nature go by. There are 2 small white gazebos and a wooden bridge that I've seen people take their wedding, birthday and graduation photos at. The small brick pond with huge cypresses in the middle is a lovely backdrop to one of the gazebos. The brick canal running thru the park is always an interesting sight to see with turtles, fish, birds, blooms and sometimes butterflies depending on the season. The swing bench is located near the avenue of crepe myrtles in a cool shady spot. There is a water fountain near the parking lot.

Lis Hyman — Google review

It is a beautiful, tranquility park. Take a stroll by yourself, with your dogs or with your family. My boys love the ponds. I love the flowers. It is a must if you live in the area

Sarah Nunn — Google review

We visited the park in November so a very peaceful visit but not the show of azalea flowers that takes place in the spring. However, camellias, tea olives, and other flowers were in bloom and the park is a wonderful walk regardless. Loved all the statuary, and the nature we did see. Will definitely visit in the spring!!

Leigh Rothman — Google review

Azalea Park was lovely. I went there to Pokemon, and had a lovely afternoon. There are so many beautiful sculptures around the park. I did have a little trouble finding the restroom, but I asked another visitor and was able to locate it after that. I plan on going back again

Firefly Nanny — Google review

Got to take some bridal portraits here and couldn’t be happier!! This lovely property is well taken care of. There is a small pond full of turtles and a white gazebo that is perfect!

Joshua Caleb Photography — Google review

I did an egg hunt for my small business, Em’s crochet, found a cute rock and the park is beautiful and quiet

Emily Spears — Google review

Very nice walking park in Summerville. The park has hundreds, maybe thousands of Azaleas, so it probably ranks 10 stars in the spring when in bloom. There are small ponds with Bald Cypress trees in the middle and the Cypress knees encircle the trees and form small islands - very cool. Looking forward to going back - especially in late March.

Summerville Antique Gallery is a must-visit spot in Summerville, SC. With nearly 10,000 square feet of space, it's a treasure trove for antique enthusiasts. The gallery features a wide variety of unique finds and refurbished items at fair prices. It's a place where vendors rent their own spaces, creating diverse and interesting layouts throughout the store. Visitors can easily spend hours exploring the vast collection and may even want to make multiple visits due to the ever-changing merchandise.

The 3 gals working were the sweetest! I found sooo many unique items. We were traveling and needed more room in our vehicles for the many things that were available for purchase. My best find was a cake cover that can be used as a bowl and a serving tray.

Franshetta Carr — Google review

Love exploring in here. Some great finds.Note to Vendors- be sure your booths are walk through. Don't clog up foot space so people are trapped. If I can't walk around- I walk by. That's lost sales for you.

LISA B — Google review

This is a big place. I feel they have something for everyone. It is individual vendors and they were not all there but there is someone to help when the vendor Is not around. Check it out for yourself but plan on spending some time. Good luck with your searches.

Lora Sedgwick — Google review

Happened to be in area and stopped in but did miss it the first time drove by using google maps, so def look for the American flags as landmarks. They have a good variety of antiques and refurbished items. Fairly priced for the current economy/inflation on supplies ect. This is the type of place that a weekly or biweekly visit is good to see as they turnover merchandise. Team seems knowledgeable and helpful. Though I didn't make a purchase, there were certainly things that caught my eye. Merchandise is organized and tagged well so you can find with ease. Will definitely be back for a visit:)

K M — Google review

Love their selections! They change up the store enough to make it a different experience each time. I took my husband and he wasn’t bored and we found really neat stuff(for a reasonable price!)

Kyle and Rachael Sywanycz — Google review

Amazing finds at this huge shop! Great prices, too. I was looking for a "Pop" piece of furniture for my foyer. I ended up making three trips here, and buying three beautiful and very useful pieces for different rooms. They have lots of furniture in excellent condition, in addition to the usual antique shop items. This was actually my first visit to this store, but it certainly won't be the last.

Melissa D — Google review

Great location! Everyone that works here is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. This is not consignment, they work with vendors. High quality antiques. Tons of variety of items to purchase. This is a big building with lots of aisles to discover. Aisles are organized. Competitive prices. I found exactly what I was looking for!

Dee Dee — Google review

This is an antique store where people rent a space in the building and then take care of their own little corner. I love this style of store, because you can see the unique design layouts of each individual vendor. This location is huge, and you can easily spend a few hours here if you want to be thorough. I have been twice, and will definitely return for a diverting weekend activity! Also, love the dogs that stay behind the front counter. 😁

Emily McCloskey — Google review

There was live music and behind the counter was 2 dogs who were absolutely adorable. Best vibes. Most stuff is reasonably priced.

This public park in Charleston offers lovely views out over the harbor and is home to an impressive collection of cannons and mortars from the American Civil War.

Great place to walk, bring your dog, stroll or just pick a spot and read or have a picnic. Views of the ocean, sidewalks everywhere. I highly recommend if you have some free time in Charleston

Lambros Balatsias — Google review

A beautifully landscaped old park in Downtown Charleston. SC. Opposite the park is the ocean. The homes along the park and just beyond are stunning.

Following FiveStar (Joy) — Google review

Beautiful garden! Very peaceful place for you to just chill and relax. There are historical statues you can view and appreciate. It is next to the battery as well for you to enjoy the ocean.

Peter Miral — Google review

If you don’t have a lot of money, and you need something to do, pack a basket lunch grab a blanket and good book to spend the day at Whitr Point Garden on the Charleston battery. And on the weekends, you’re guaranteed to catch a beautiful wedding ceremony or wedding party getting their portraits done. There’s also passing sail boats and beautiful sunrise and sunset. There’s no public restroom but a 15 minute brisk walk to waterfront Park and there is a bathroom there. There is however free two hour parking on the streets around the park

Great place to sit and people watch or relax. Benches throughout the park and very well maintained.

First time I came here was in 1998, I totally forgot about that trip. Glad I was able to see it again. Very well maintained. Beautiful scenery and peace here. Crazy to think what used to be there and what took place though.

White Point Garden Is Awesome! Beautiful place to go to see the trees, and water. Without doubt worth going to! Have a great day!

White Point Garden is a must-stop when visiting Charleston. Take King Street south, and it runs right into White Point Garden. Take a few moments and take in all the history. And make sure you loop around to Waterfront Park and wade in the pineapple fountain.

In March white point Garden is covered with lots of flowers and blooming trees. This garden in park is very stunning to walk around and take photos. It is right off of the water and you get a beautiful view of sunrise or the sunset. It is family friendly with easy, parking parallel parking along the curb. Definitely a beautiful place to visit.

Picturesque and historical park at the Charleston battery. Beautiful park for dog walking by the bay. The tree canopy doubles as a bird estuary at times.

Nice greenspace in Charleston. Beautiful old trees, grass areas, and a few benches. Might have a nice view of the water but there were construction barriers (tall fabric type) so that was blocked for the most part. I was looking for a family member's plaque so I was on a mission.

Historical place museum

Sights & Landmarks

The Nathaniel Russell House, an elegant residence built in 1808, is a renowned museum dedicated to preserving the neoclassical architecture and history of Charleston. Located on Market Street, this historic site offers guided tours that provide visitors with insights into the remarkable Russell family and their controversial involvement in the slave trade during the antebellum era. The house features a magnificent three-story spiral staircase known for its unique design, which guests can explore while learning about domestic life in that time period.

Our visit was 11 August 2022. We had been on a Carriage ride early during the week and this house was brought to our attention. We took the tour of this house and it was very informative. The staff are very professional, pleasant, and knowledgeable. The stairwell which it is known for was beautiful. The whole house is lovely and puts you into the mind set of that period. We enjoyed chatting with staff and learning some interesting information. I would bring friends & family to this location again.

Philly Red — Google review

We liked this tour. The home has been beautifully restored as much as possible, to the origin design and decor. It was very interesting to learn all about the people who lived there over the years. It wasn't very long which allowed for time to see more tours. It was $15/person. We enjoyed the beauty and architecture of this home.

Anne Neuman — Google review

A look into the past.We did the self guided tour. We were given headphones and an ipod like device. Each room has a 3 to 5 minute presentation. It was very informative. It's incredible to see how people used to live. Although some rooms are colorful, I'd imagine that kids would be bored. The staircase is magnificent.

Keith M — Google review

My wife and I visited the Nathaniel Russel House during a Valentine's Day getaway to Charleston. The house is a restored facility, which means that it is brought back to its past glory and looks much as it would have when in use in bygone days. A good example of a preserved house is the Aiken-Rhett House. That house is intentionally kept in a the same state in which it was found, prevented from further decay but not "fancied up." Both styles of museums are valuable and we were happy to have toured both. The Nathaniel Russel House offers a self-guided tour that takes about 45 minutes to complete. Devices with headphones are distributed at the hospitality lobby, and the house is easy to navigate. The story is told of the wealthy owners as well as the enslaved persons who worked the property. We found the experience to be well worth our time and are glad that museums such as these exist to tell the truth of our nation's complicated past.

Greg Squyres — Google review

An interesting historical home tour. We did a guided tour with Cheryl, and enjoyed her storytelling approach to guiding us through the home. The guided tours begin at the top of the hour, and they also offer an option to listen to their recorded guide with headphones. Very friendly people, nice way to spend 45min to an hour.

Alissa Niblick — Google review

The Nathaniel-Russell House was a beautiful place to visit and to learn about the history and architecture of Charleston, South Carolina. The house was impressive, especially the crown molding on the second floor, the spiral staircase, and the dining room on the first floor. The garden was also wonderful and worth walking through and checking out before or after taking the tour of the house. This was an audio tour on an iPhone, so if you have more comfortable headphones, plan to bring those! This was a great experience overall.

Plum Health DPC — Google review

The house tour was lovely, very informative historian that guided us in each room and shared stories and information of the homes history. was a cool experience to get to see the “inside” of a home in Charleston of what it would have looked like back in time. Would recommend if you want to do a house tour

Ebrar Ercilasun — Google review

An amazing experience. You cannot see all that Charleston has to offer in a weekend however this is a must see. This home has been restored to its original charm and character. Please see the photo of the steps which was cutting edge at the time this home was built.

Tim Logan — Google review

Very cool house with great history. We did the guided tour & it was worth it. You can really tell the dedication the staff puts forth to make sure all restoration is authentic.

Kyle Sims — Google review

On Meeting St south of Broad in what some would say is the most prestigious neighborhood of Charleston is the Nathaniel Russell house. The small gardens in front of the home are very pleasant and a worthwhile place just to stop and collect your self (there is no fee to relax there, just like a park). The home itself is pleasant enough and includes a self guided tour by using an iPod although I would say that having a personal guide provides a bit more context and certainly permits more interaction and learning. The tour itself takes about 45 minutes if you skip some of the audio commentary. It would take closer to an hour and a half if you listened to the whole thing and is about a 10-15 minutes walk from the Charleston City market. We did the Heyward-Washington and Edmonston-Alston homes during the same afternoon. If looking to do a number of house tours we purchased The Charleston Heritage Passport which offered over six homes, the Middleton Plantation the Charleston Museum and few other sites. The passport lasts for five days after it's first use so plan accordingly but we found it was well worth it. Enjoy!

Craig Bromberg — Google review

Well worth the price of admission the tour we were on was hosted by a local Docent. She did a marvelous job of explaining life in the late 1700's in Charleston and this marvelous house. I was fascinated by the cantilevered staircase. We visited the house in November and the crowds were small-- a nice time to visit Charleston too.

Glenn Hanon — Google review

It's hard to know how to feel about these places. Is it a historic place because a rich man lived there who made his money from chattel slavery? The museum has made an effort to acknowledge that dark history so that's why I'd recommend it.

Adam Mutch — Google review

We had a lovely time at Nathaniel Russell house. We skipped the audio tour in lieu of a guided tour with Maxine - and I’d recommend that all day, every day if she’s there. She was an excellent host - full of knowledge and happy to answer questions. The house isn’t huge like some estates we’ve visited, but it’s also reasonably priced to balance that out. We spent about an hour there. There’s a small gift shop area by the ticket counter with books, puzzles and ornaments. If you’re looking for a low key tour - check this out!

Cortney Ayers — Google review

The self guided audio tour was excellent, as were the gardens. The house itself, while lovely, didn't really have any character and it would have been nice to be provided with more information on occupants. Worth a visit.

John Espinosa — Google review

This is a great example of a large house where terrible white people lived. Just seeing the amount of opulence they enjoyed while owning other human beings was staggering. The guided tour did a great job of showing the price the enslaved people paid for the family to afford the luxuries they had. Also, in the back of the house seeing the conditions the people they enslaved lived under were sobering and eye opening and atrocious all at the same time. A very good way to see the terrible history of this section of Charleston life.

Chad Ketcham — Google review

Very historic home built in the early 1800's. The tour guides were excellent and gave you an amazing glimpse into life in Charleston two centuries ago. I'm so glad we toured the home!

Jim Wakefield — Google review

Breathtakingly beautiful house museum. They have really worked hard to keep/restore this house to how it was in the early 1800's. There are two touring options: a guided tour or an audio tour with earphones, we utilized the audio option and it was very informative and easy to do. Every room in the main house was beautiful and elegant. I particularly liked the spiral staircase and ceiling decoration. Everyone working there was very nice and helpful.

Meagan Jarrells — Google review

Easy to find. I used the audio which is about 45 min long. It was a tad slow in places but the rooms themselves are great! Love the chamber pot chair and the staircase. Used to some rooms having chairs for those that need to sit occasionally but this only had 1 spot for sitting.

Christa Dandoy — Google review

The rooms in the house have been immaculately restored to its original condition in beautiful detail. There are two impressive rooms in the house. The tour guide was extremely informative and more knowledgeable than most

Eloise J. Li — Google review

We took the self guided audio tour. It's fairly short and concise. You can tell that Nathaniel really spared no expense constructing his home.

Market

Sights & Landmarks

The Charleston City Market, a market complex located in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, has a rich history dating back over 200 years. Spanning four blocks, this historic market offers a diverse array of food vendors and artisans selling various crafts such as sweetgrass baskets. The Market Hall, an architecturally significant building that faces Meeting Street, serves as the centerpiece of the market. Stretching from Market Hall to East Bay Street are a series of one-story market sheds that complete the complex.

I went to this beautiful gallery of art. I was told that Jonathan Green was one of the best artist in town. Great Customer Service. Willie was very nice, neat and charming. Great Prices too!!🙂

tawana gadsden — Google review

I loved visiting this market. It was fairly big for the area that it’s in. I was expecting a much smaller market and was pleasantly surprised. There was so much to see and buy. I bought some prints, little gifts, jewelry, candies and had to buy some of the beautiful grass woven art pieces. There is lots more to do outside of the market that is very close and I loved that aspect also. It was a tight squeeze but we went on a weekend so maybe it’s less crowded during the weekdays. You are going to love it, but pack your comfy shoes for sure.

JJ Herman — Google review

The City Market is a must-stop if you are visiting Charleston. This market is packed with all different types of vendors and artisans. The handmade straw baskets are works of art, and the paintings are breathtaking. Different vendors vary throughout the week, so stop in several times.

Chris Trethewey — Google review

Had a great time browsing all the very unique and interesting gifts offered by so many different vendors. Everyone was polite & friendly, the basket weavers even made a rose for our little one which made her day.

david willis — Google review

Starting from the intersection of Meeting Street and Market Street then extending all the way to East Bay Street, the Charleston City Market is a renown location to buy a wide assortment of locally produced goods or at least from certified local vendors. During the day it serves predominantly as tourist market (but still nice) and there are, on certain evenings a Night Market where only locally produced goods are available. In both cases it is worth a visit if you are visiting as you are sure to find a nice memento of your visit here...and you'd be supporting a small local business. Enjoy!

Craig Bromberg — Google review

This was my 2nd visit to Charleston City Marketplace. It's an open-air market with no walls and vendors lining either side of the aisles with all sorts of unique sweet grass baskets, jewelry, clothing, food, books and so much more. I purchased a very unique handmade cane with a silver metal handle for a friend at a very reasonable price. Also, I purchased several pieces of jewelry for gift giving and some sweet grass items. The vendors are generally very friendly and some are the artisans who created the items on display. Three blocks long with lots of parking nearby, both street and lot parking. Each time I've gone, I wish I had more room in my suitcase for additional items. Several restaurants surrounding the market, including Henry's with great food and ambiance, are either at the bar or table seating. There's also an area to get carriage rides within a block. Easy walking area and open 7 days a week.

Micki K Kirkland — Google review

Definitely a must see in Charleston. Although busier, it's probably better to go on a weekend when I would imagine more vendors would be out. But I am not exactly sure how that works. If you are really shopping, it probably takes about 2 hours to get through the entire market. There are plenty of public parking areas. The parking garage we parked at was $4 for 2 hours.

Jordan Yoshimine — Google review

A must see when you visit Charleston! Packed with something for everyone. I bought a book, a few pieces of art, and post cards. Very welcoming. I felt comfortable with my mask on. I would visit here again. From grits, to baskets, to art there is so much to see! Such a beautiful experience. Truly a place worth stopping and experiencing. You can find parking, there are lots and street parking. Also there is a lot of food in the area. Enjoy!

MJ Worldwide — Google review

This was my second time visiting the market while in the state. It was such a lovely time. So much beautiful art and good snacks! Of course, everything is surrounded by the beautiful city with so many different shops. The only downfall is the horse carriage rides, leaves horse poop in the ground in some areas with a fresh scent.I do recommend going during the week if you can, so it's a little busy.

We were looking for something to do before we had to head to the airport. This is an interesting market that has a huge variety of things to look at and shop. There are permanent stores and what appears to be less permanent stalls for local vendors. Most of it is in outdoor covered pavilions with one section indoors and air conditioned. It began to rain hard, which quickly flooded the streets. There were 7 to as much as 12 inches of water between the buildings. I had to take my shoes off and roll my pants up to escape. Would have like to see the whole thing. It was a very memorable experience.

Love the Charleston City Market. There are a lot of interesting shops. Some are handmade items, too.Wide variety of artworks, spices, etc.The high ceiling with fans and long 2 buildings are impressive. There are also bathrooms.Walking down the shops is sure a nice experience. ...

Phia Velasquez — Google review

The Market is great and houses lots of great vendors both day and night with food, artifacts, art, jewelry, bags, clothing, and so much more. Lots of the items are handmade, especially at the night market. The market extends about 3 or more blocks and lots of great eating places and other stores around the market. You definitely want to visit the market! We did twice!! 😃

S Martin — Google review

There seems to be something for everyone. Whether you are looking for handmade jewelry, accessories, candles, hats, fragrance, jellies, cookies, or Charlston themed souvenirs, I am sure you will enjoy your visit. Be sure to visit the numerous nearby shops and horse and carriage tours.

Mario Mccoy — Google review

Marvelous public market in the middle of downtown Charleston. The place has different kind of vendors, from arts and crafts to local shoes designers. Even if you don’t buy anything, I encourage people to talk a walk inside to enjoy its architecture.

Arthur Alexander — Google review

One of my top fave experiences while we were visiting Charleston. Really cool market with all sorts of local stuff to buy and eat. Also just fun to look around. They only have certain hours so make sure to check the site. We caught the tail end of the market so a lot of people were already packing up or gone already for the day. Still a unique experience to find touristy or less touristy m/more unique Charleston items. I bought some delicious pecans roasted in cinnamon sugar. I will say roads are really tight and smaller in this part of town so brace yourself and search for nearby parking.

Chelsea C — Google review

This is definitely a must stop, whether during the day or at night. My friend and I loved walking through the market and perusing all the local vendors and shops. We purchased a couple of gifts for ourselves and for others. I loved some of the unique jewelry and basket shops, and other items like the freeze dried skittles I couldn't quite understand. There's a plethora of things to buy!

Heidi Morales-Hake — Google review

The barn was very clean and smelt nice, and had bathrooms, which we were not expecting. It was easy and fast to get into the wagon as they tell everyone where to sit. We had Jordan, who was a very good coach horse and clearly knew the route. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We saw a lot of the beautiful back alleys and were told a lot of history.

Julie Jett — Google review

A great place for unique gifts and souvenirs from the Low Country. Authentic, hand made items by local craftsmen, garments, soaps, etc. Sweet grass baskets too. Parking is a bear or the other "B" word. Garages and lots can be $20/day. Place floods during a heavy rainstorm. Closes at 5 with vendors taking all their goods with them. A must see.

Steve Tishko — Google review

Ok so it's getting an average review based on access and walking. Repeat of products and parking. Worth the shopping trip but if you have mobility issues just know it's going to be a challenge. The horse carriage is a mixed thoughts, really hard to get in for some, But such a nice way to hear stories and see the sights. Just wish they had a horses only lane .

Amy Ramses — Google review

My husband and I shopped at Charelston City Market and we bought a beautiful ornament of a Charleston map, put on an oyster shell. It is so unique and beautiful. This wonderful lady sold it to us, she was so nice. I also bought a wallet to match my purse that I bought in Savannah, Georgia. There was so many things to choose from and I love what we bought. My husband also, bought me a beautiful bohemian cover-up with a brooch, it is also reversible.

Open air market with vendor booths amid centuries old buildings. Great walking / touring area. Close to waterfront and historical parks and buildings. I'm not much for markets, but the walk was very nice.

AccuSpect Inspections — Google review

Just steps from the port so best not to go when ships are visiting. Specialty foods and local crafts and kitschy souvenirs. Pick up a pack of benne wafers for a nice gift for friends.

Irene S. Levine — Google review

The market has so many booths with unique items - it took over three hours to see it all. I lucked out and went on the day of the Christmas tree lighting so there was a night market too. I went to the market in the morning and then again for the night market. A lot of different vendors set up for the night market. It wasn’t difficult to find a parking spot for either time. It was a lovely day and I bought many unique items from food items to baskets to jewelry.Side note: Be careful of the people outside the market trying to “gift” you with a handmade sea grass rose. They are relentless with demands for money. Just be prepared to pay if you accept the “gift”.

Suzanne Symon — Google review

Very cool, large market with lots of local vendors selling many different products. You could purchase belts, paintings, hats, handmade leaf baskets, and much more. We visited at least 2-3 times in our short stay. It was a bit pricey, but it's also a big tourist attraction so it makes sense. It wasn't too busy though, we were able to take our time and got a few souvenirs to bring back.

Caleb Sanchez — Google review

This place is usually on the list of places to go and see on Trip Advisor and Google. I usually go to these to look for unique souvenirs and shot glasses. Yes, it’s a tourist trap and worth walking around to window shop. I didn’t buy anything because I didn’t see anything that interested me and the prices weren’t cheap. People were friendly. You’ll see some weaving baskets, jewelry, clothing, etc.

Nicholas P — Google review

Cool market, lots of vendors and stuff to see and possibly buy. Watch out for the street folks peddling the grass roses though. This kid tried to get my elderly mom to give him money for a "basketball trip to Alpharetta". I told him no thanks and he cussed me out and walked off.

The Joe Riley Waterfront Park on the east side of Charleston provides sweeping views of the harbor and is a popular spot for people to relax, picnic, and take in the sights. There are drinking fountains scattered throughout the park and wireless Internet access.

This park is set along the ocean and calls you to remember the history of the area as you walk along its paths.Flowers & Majestic Trees line the walking routes that eventually guide you to the the famous Pineapple fountain ⛲️ and the pier.Lots of restaurants and shopping close by.A relaxing way to spend a few hours or all day.

Such an amazing place to walk around and have a nice evening stroll. Lots of benches to sit down and take a moment to relax. Beautiful fountains (including the famous Pineapple fountain) down here! The boardwalk is right next to the water and leads all the way to the water taxi pickup. The grove of trees is like walking through a green tunnel, especially gorgeous close to sunset with the suns rays penetrating the leaves.

We visited on a weekday afternoon in the spring. It was fairly busy with spring break tourists. It was difficult finding parking. We had to circle a lot before we found a lot with open spaces. There are two fountains and a boardwalk. People are allowed to play in the fountains! No one was in them due to the cooler weather. The pier has a covered picnic area and bench swings. My kid loved the swings! There's a Carnival Cruise Line dock next door and there was a ship there! The pineapple fountain was gorgeous. It was much more detailed than I expected. There's an area with benches close by shaded by many live oaks. Just beautiful.

Amber Connell — Google review

A staple must do on your Charleston visit!Enjoy the park with trails under oaks or along the marsh, benches, swings on the dock leading to the marsh, a dock by the Tug Boats, and of course infamous Pineapple Fountain. One of the best views of the Charleston area bay and especially for sunrise! You can find me here occasionally doing my morning rucks or on the docks enjoying the sea!We hope you enjoy our beautiful city of Charleston!- The Pirate Hunter

Super cool cool park. We felt like we were in a Jane Austin book taking a turn around the gardens. It was incredible beautiful and well cared for. We wish we had more time to just come and chill. This is a must got for a quiet place to rest. It’s very peaceful. Now should be mentioned it’s not a park for kids to run or dogs to be walked etc. even a sign that says no running. It’s a tranquil park. Which is what brings some of it awesomeness.

Steven deSteuben — Google review

Beautiful water front park with lots of trees, benches and great views. Check out the pineapple and other fountain. Kids should wear their bathing suits, and adults can dip their toes too! A few restaurants and an ice cream shop are nearby.

Nice walking area along the water. There are 2 fountains that the kids are allowed to play in and cool off, dont forget to bring a towel. I fountain is called the pineapple fountain which looks like a pineapple. The pier is nice, has a shaded area with a couple of swings. Grandchild was able to ride her bike along the path.

We visited in late March when it is chilly in the mornings but warms to 70’s in the afternoon, perfect time to visit these outdoor locations in Charleston. Flowers were starting bloom and spread through the park. There are two walkways one that is the pier and one the has elaborate homes, lined with huge oak trees. Several cute places to sit and watch the pier or to have a nice picnic. The fountain was beautiful.

AWESOOOOME! SUCH a gorgeous place to walk around and have a nice evening stroll. Beautiful fountains down here! And the boardwalk right next to the water…and the grove of trees is like walking through a tunnel. So beautiful, such a nice little pretty spot. If I lived in Charleston, I’d be down here every week! A MUST VISIT if you ever find yourself in historic Charleston! 👍👍

Dan Thompson — Google review

This park is a great place to take a break from the touring and activity of the city proper. There was a lovely breeze and shade so it was refreshing. It is a peaceful spot to relax and enjoy watching the sailboats in the harbor or the kids playing in the fountains.

Cris Letourneau — Google review

Wow. What a beautiful park. The fountains are the main attractions in the park other than the view of Fort Sumter. Great place for kids to dip themselves in the fountains on a hot summer day. Had sail boats floating by. Plenty of shady places to cool off while walking the surrounding area. The swings on the dock are the best. So much to do here. You won't regret giving this beautiful part of Charleston SC a gander. Will definitely be back for more.

Frankie Rodriguez — Google review

Joe Riley Waterfront Park is an easy walk from King Street and City Market. This beautiful and pristine park overlooks the Charleston Harbor. Stop at the Pineapple Fountain, slip off your shoes, and wade in the water. Stroll along the tree-lined pathway and enjoy the beauty of Charleston.

We had a beautiful day. October is a perfect time to visit. Nice place to take a break and rest. You can reflect, watch sail boats, and listen to street artists.

Laura Mantooth — Google review

If you are looking to take an early morning or late evening stroll, this is the perfect spot. There are plenty of benches if you want to grab a book to read, have a picnic, or just take in the scenery and enjoy nature.

Kevin Guy — Google review

Beautiful waterfront park in downtown Charleston. We got to see a cruise ship docked nearby. Perfect place to admire the fountains, sit on swings or benches and relax or visit with friends, have a picnic. Very nice park with water views. We enjoyed it.

Brandi W — Google review

Wonderful waterfront park! We went end of March 2024 and there was a ton of construction which made getting there with a wheelchair a tough experience but once we did it was great! The paths were not very wheelchair friendly because roots had grown under the bricks (not unexpected) so I would suggest having someone assist a wheelchair user. We did see a dolphin on the peer! Swings were busy so we didn’t get to try those. Will return again in warmer months!

Sandy Reamer — Google review

This park is awesome, it's got the pineapple fountain you can put your feet in and it's also got the splash pad, there is the pier that is a must go to, it's where you can find the famous swings.

Aquarium

Nature & Parks

The South Carolina Aquarium, situated in Charleston, South Carolina, is a large aquatic facility with interactive displays and numerous creatures. It opened on May 19, 2000, by the historic Charleston Harbor.

Our two year old daughter is obsessed with aquariums, she will stay at one exhibit until she has seen every coming and going. We have taken her to them just about all over the east coast Charleston , South Carolina Aquarium definitely is worth a trip. The have a massive amount of interactive station for children to play with and a feeding station for the rays. Fyi it's $5 extra but worth every penny. You will get wet as they get very excited to get a treat. It's in a wonderful safe location. Park in the garage which is another fee but everything is now days. It's a great time. Very affordable. Highly recommend.

Tai Sanders — Google review

Our new favorite aquarium!!Sea turtles are some of our favorite animals, and this is the first aquarium we've been to that has so many of them. Loved seeing the turtle recovery area and all them being well taken care of!We had a blast and the pricing was much cheaper than some of the other aquariums we have been to.

Luke Smith — Google review

What a fun experience! My fiancé and I were down in Charleston for the weekend and we were really looking forward to our visit here- it did not disappoint! We went on a Monday at 11. I liked how they are very specific with your check in time upon purchase of tickets, although it wasn’t crowded at all! Everyone is so friendly from the jump. A very kind lady greeted us at the front and informed us of the events and shows that were going on that day. We spent a lot of time in the turtle exhibit area where we talked for a while with one of the employees about the rehabilitation and release program they conduct for sea turtles. They are all excellent in showing their passion for the mission and educating the public on what we can do to help. There were so many exhibits and animals to look at and read about! Definitely a must visit if you are in the area and love marine life.

Leslie Bernardo — Google review

Great place to learn about the local marine life. The aquarium has exhibits ranging from the mountains to the open sea filled with a variety of animals. It's a good place to hang around for a couple of hours and has good views of the Charleston harbor. The only downside is its smaller size when compared to other aquariums. However, it has good prices to make up for it. I would highly recommend seeing everything once.

J.C. Lochan — Google review

This place was okay; a nice place to go with kids. A bit pricey based on their small-ish collection and lack of animals, compared to other aquariums. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, if you're on a trip with your family and you can afford it, it's worth a visit. There are plenty of things here that a child will enjoy, but if you're expecting a truly unique aquarium experience, you might not find what you're looking for.

Bogdan Dusa — Google review

Spent a little over an hour here after appointments. My daughter has been wanting to go, and she's in her 30's. So aquariums aren't just for younger kids🥰 It was small, but packed a bunch. Lots of interactive activities. She loved petting the sting rays. The turtle rescue exhibit was informative. Overall a great place to visit. However, a little pricey.

Maria Schwartz — Google review

We were in town for a weekend and wanted an indoor activity with AC. Decided to check this spot out.We bought tickets online in advanced for a timed entry. Got there and no wait.A cool aquarium but very small. I haven’t gone to many aquariums but this was small.Everything you’d imagine seeing at an aquarium and some random exhibits like an American bald eagle and a worker with a pet snake. They did have some areas you can pet stingrays and other sea creatures.Overall not with the price. They should charge $15 not $35.

Robin Mehera — Google review

Love this aquarium, it is very clean and well maintained. Still can't believe how close you are able to get to a bald eagle. The main salt water tank is the deepest in the country and has over 500 fish in it including about half a dozen sharks and a huge sea turtle. The kids learned a lot coming here and were entertained for hours. Feeding the sting rays were so much fun too. Make sure to check the show times so you don't miss any of the events.

Victor Lao — Google review

This was a pleasant laid back experience. The aquarium doesn't have as many exhibits as some other state/large aquariums. It's 2 levels but still on the small side. There is an eagle exhibit (one eagle named Liberty) which was cool. The sea turtle rescue area was cool with views of rehabilitating turtles and the operating/examination room is one way glass.

Margra Ferrier — Google review

A little late posting this, but my fiancé and I attended the "SEA you at Formal" Winter Formal. The Charleston Aquarium hosted this event for Charleston Southern University Students and it was a blast! Not only was the aquarium decorated, but we were all able to check out all the exhibits! It was such a magical night! I would highly recommend the Charleston Aquarium to all families as I know kids would love this!

Jillian Gravizi — Google review

A very relaxing and calming environment, with lots of interactive exhibits for kids or anyone else. The turtle rehabilitation is outstanding, educational and helping wildlife.Otters, hawks, and other creatures are also part of the menagerie here. There's no wait if you get tickets in advance online, which also means it should be crowded.

Linda Winkler — Google review

Good aquarium experience, decent size, free wheelchair use, nice mix of large tank, interactive experiences, immersive walk-through environment, theatre, and even a couple avian displays. Great Oceanside location, Good inexpensive parking…

Regorybles — Google review

117.00 for mom, dad and 7 yo. I've been before and one of the most fun aquariums thanks to a nice collection of local sea life and some unique features such as letting the stingrays and some nice places to sit and just enjoy. The staff is gracious and the proximity to the Fort Sumter experience makes it even more convenient thanks to the large parking garage and the museum and ferry next door. You can get quality of time spent on vacation really well done in this area.

C H — Google review

Nice small aquarium. (Reason for 4 star, had hoped it would be bigger). Had a good day visiting with kids. Easy to leave and come back for lunch. Snack bar looks ok but not many choices and only place to sit is outside. If your kids like to touch animals this place has lots of opportunities. They have a Trading Post program. Your kids can bring in shells, snake skin, fossils, bones to trade for other cool nature finds. If your new(like us) they can answer a few questions about the animals to earn points and get a treasure. Easily could visit place in 1/2 a day if get here when it opens. Lots of shows and animal encounters all day long. Parking is across the street and reasonably priced. Not a lot of food choices around. A couple sandwich shops about 5 min walk away.

valerie leaphart — Google review

You have a small walk from the parking deck to the aquarium. All pay parking from what I seen. You definitely want to buy tickets a day or two ahead for lower pricing. Awesome exhibits, few were hands on with getting to pet and or feed rays, and petting sharks. Kids learning area on second floor. It does have elevators as well as stairs and escalators. Over all entry price was a bit high when bought same day but very nice experience none the less.

Katelynn Roy — Google review

Fun place to go with kids or alone. We were able to see every exhibit without feeling rushed. And the kids got to pet stingrays, horseshoe crabs, sea urchins, starfish. Even a few others while the employees have the out to teach about them (baby alligator and different turtles). I would def recommend going

Adam — Google review

We absolutely enjoyed the aquarium! There were so many different interactive things for them to do there. Between petting mini tiger sharks, starfish, and sting rays! It was a very fun place. They also have this amazing turtle hospital where they rehab turtles from the area that are sick or injured. They show you details on each of their check ups and updates on their recovery! The employees are all super friendly as well. It was awesome to see the employee playing ball with the otters. We had a great time!!!

Citygirl 81 — Google review

Wonderful experience! It’s not a huge aquarium and won’t take you longer than two hours unless you really get i to each exhibit. But the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and will talk to you and tell you so much about the animals. We loved the hands on area in which you can pet Star Fish, little sharks, Shoe Horn crabs, and more. The huge aquarium is the deepest one in the US, going down 42 feet and spans two stories. We spent quite some time watching the sea life, in part enjoying “Green Bean” - the big, green eel. There is also a turtle rehabilitation hospital that is really cool.Definitely worth a visit.

Lexi Haddock — Google review

The aquarium was quite small, a little overpriced ($36).The fish tanks look clean and they looked like they are well taken care of.The staff was very nice as well. The coolest was the sea turtle exhibit/rehabilitation center inside. You can see the turtles they are caring for, you can read up on their history, and their recovery process. It quite a unique part of this aquarium that I haven’t seen in others.I also felt like you have a tiny bit more options to be close to certain animals which was different (emphasis on tiny bit though).Overall, it was a cute aquarium.

CS Martinez — Google review

I was in town visiting with family. My neice-in-law has a season pass and takes the "littles" quite often. I had always wanted to go, and so we did. Such a nice , clean, beautiful place! The children and I just loved all the exhibits and inter-action activities there are. What a fun place and such cool creatures to see. I would highly recommend going.

MARLA NARDO — Google review

The kids loved this place and so did we! We went at 3:30 and it was not too crowded. We bought tickets in advance and they had times. Parking is across the street so it’s a short walk. Well worth a trip to see!

William — Google review

My kids loved exploring this place. The aquarium has a ton of interactive exhibits for the kids to enjoy. In one of the rooms it features an illuminated life size giant squid and jellyfish (see video). Here’s a little known admissions tip if your budget is tight. Your local library has passes for the aquarium & children’s museums of the Lowcountry (if you’re a local resident). The pass admits 2 adults and 8 children.

This is a review of the South Carolina aquarium located in Charleston South Carolina.Happy to report that this facility does honor military discount with proper ID and if you park in the parking garage which is City owned then you will get free parking if you have handicap disabled veteran tags.Everyone we encounters that worked for the aquarium was smiling friendly and very helpful from the people who are standing outside telling you where to go to the young men and women who are taking the money for the tickets to especially all the employees inside who were working with the animals everyone is super professional friendly and absolutely awesome. In particular the first young lady that we encountered whose name is Anna who was working first thing in the morning at the outside Sea Ray tank was so awesome that we even got to go on a behind the scenes tour of the giant tank as she selected a whole bunch of people from the building that day. I have been to this aquarium several times and this was the first time I got to do it behind the scenes tour it was absolutely great to have her take the time to show about a dozen of us around how feeding worked how filtration worked for the giant tanks how they tried to save endangered species and was willing to answer any questions anybody could come up with she was super knowledgeable and absolutely fantastic. If you look at the website for the aquarium you'll notice that they have gone to a time-sensitive fee schedule meaning that Saturdays which is the day that we went was the most expensive every single day is different so you will need to look at the website before you go in to figure out what the price will be for your tickets for that day.Absolutely 10 out of 10 experience ❤️

This is one of my favorite local places!! I read online that it got listed as a pricey tourist trap, but I don't think most people understand its purpose. It's a turtle recovery and rehab hospital first. It exists to rescue and help sea turtles. My entrance fee and paying $30 for a T-shirt goes to fund helping turtles that were injured. Every time I visit, I get to see the new turtles that are being helped. Plus, I feed the stingrays! Go. Pay your fee. Buy a T-shirt. Yes, it costs a little bit of money. But it is SO worth it!

Dee Clancy — Google review

Too crowded and expensive for the amount of time can spend there. We really loved this in the past but for our last visit it was very crowded and noisy. After 1.5 hours we were ready to go although had spent $40/person.Still might be worth it…but try to go on a non-busy day or leave sooner than you’d planned.

Andrew Miller — Google review

I spent basically my whole time with all the sea turtles especially Coretta I had tears of joy watching this beautiful sea turtle swim around...there is also a sea turtle hospital that was great to see..we saw some scuba divers in the tank checking out the tank ...by the looks of the aquarium they take very good care of all the animals big and small. I highly recommend this aquarium especially if you like sea turtles, I am not sure of the cost this was a birthday surprise

The fort at Fort Sumter was the site of the first shots in the Civil War, and it continues to be a popular tourist destination. The fort is only accessible by water, and daily ferries run informative trips back and forth. It's also a National Historic Landmark.

The paddle boat ride was relaxing. The raising of the flag was really cool and the story that he shared was neat. Gave you a better appreciation for both sides of the civil war. It's amazing how much the enslaved people did in this part of the country to build this part of the country.

Joni Garrett — Google review

This starts with a nice relaxing ferry ride to the island. We loved sitting on the deck outside and looking at the water and the city. Once we arrived at Fort Sumter, we were giving a brief overview by one of the Rangers about the monument. The Rangers are extremely knowledgeable and can answer almost any questions. There is a lot of history there and it is interesting to learn. It’s well preserved a great addition to our Charleston trip. We probably would not go back again but we were glad we went once.

Erica Jo Byers Pelton — Google review

The tour of Fort Sumter was the perfect length at approximately an hour. We took the first tour at 9:30 and I highly recommend it. It is cooler and better yet we rode with all the docents! Ranger Walter gave the history of the Fort and the area. It is mostly preserved in its mostly destroyed state. Restoring it imo would take away from the story.

Walter Ford — Google review

A definite must when you come to Charleston, especially if you're a historian, you will really enjoy this one. The ferry ⛴️ was nice as well this is a very educational tour, get in line early if you want to pick your seat on the ferry, also I recommended the last one of the day because they have the flag folding ceremony where the you get to participate if you want. I was a bit taken back, standing in the middle of the fort thinking of the events that took place there, I only wish it was a bit longer there was a lot to take in but not a lot of time to do it.

Dominique Chance — Google review

Must do experience while in Charleston. I must admit spending time on the water to and from the island was half the reason I visited Fort Sumter. The views of the Battery, Ravenal Bridge, and Sullivan's Island from the ferry were stunning. Knowledgeable guides and a very well written brochure provided more background and history than could be absorbed for one day. Next time I'd like to go early and stay late, so I could spend more time in the museum. The sound system can't compete with the engine and the waves. More speakers on board are needed to be able to actually hear the park ranger clearly. Old and young alike catch just enough snippets to be tantalized without being informed. Also, the web site refers to a garage on the Charleston side without providing a map or the cost of parking, so we opted for Patriots Park on the Mt Pleasant side for $5. All in all, the excursion was well worth the time and money. I'll make time for a fourth trip when I can make a day of it. Fascinating, really.

This is a must do exhibit if you visit the Charleston area. You have a brief ferry trip to the monument. As you arrive, you can see the stations of where the cannons were pointing outward. The fort itself is well preserved and it’s history is very fascinating. Quick tip: You can take part in the “raising” and lowering of the American flag if you are on either the 9:00 or 4:00 tours. The overall tour was quite informative and pleasant.

Michael Androvett — Google review

While it was one of the hottest days, the Ferry ride and the Fort were amazing. Because we were on the first tour of the day, they needed help raising the garrison flag. I didn't hold the flag but I got to witness my family participating. Bring a water bottle, they have refill fountains at the fort.

Jeanne Sutton — Google review

The ferry ride to Fort Sumter is pleasant and relaxing. When we got to the fort, we had to wait almost 15 minutes for the ferry in front of us to load and depart before we could disembark and explore the fort, and our time was cut short because of it. My advice, please plan to get back to the ferry on time so others may have the same experience. Other then being rushed, it was a great experience, hearing the story of the history of the fort was fascinating, and the museum was packed full of information and artifacts.

Michele Stroud — Google review

Ft Sumter Is Beautiful a lot of cool history!I recommend you take the Last Ferry of the day you also will have a chance to take down the flag and fold it when arriving at the island for the last Trip!Very beautiful place and the museum is pretty cool!

The Wilfords — Google review

Fort Sumter has an amazing history that is worth the visit. The ferry takes about 30 mins to get out there and a ranger will give a quick 10 min presentation upon arrival. You only have an hour while you're out there so take full advantage of it. I wish we had more time but it was still a blast. We were even greeted by dolphins at the fort.

alex monsrud — Google review

Essential American history expedition. Park Rangers were knowledgeable and did a great job sharing both Union and Confederate viewpoints to give the complete story of one of the pivotal places in our nation’s history.

Darren Holley — Google review

First, the 30 min ferry ride was relaxing and informational. We were able to spot dolphins several times during the ride. The historic Fort itself is wonderful to explore. They have a museum which explains the history of the Fort and displays historic artifacts. The flag raising ceremony (first trip only) was also very meaningful. Restrooms were clean and well maintained. There’s also a tiny gift store at the fort.

Han Stw — Google review

Nice relaxing and informative boat ride out. We were the first tour of the day so we got to see the raising of the flag. Amazing when coupled with the history of the fort. The young lady who gave us the history was amazing at her job. I teared up a couple times. (I'm like that with some history things I guess.) When arriving and going to the flag pole, and continued history, it knocks out 10-15 minute from the hour that you have, The only thing I would like to see is an extra half hour to tour the grounds more. Other than that it was well worth the time and ticket to get there!!

Stagerlee — Google review

Great place to soak in history. Wish we had a bit more time to get around and read all the plaques and fully experience the museum.

Matthew Rice — Google review

As a history nerd, this monument literally makes me giddy. I spent several hours exploring this place boring my poor parents with every random fact I know. It is definitely worth the trip if you know the history. Even if you don't know the history, it is still pretty darn cool. I mean, who doesn't love old abandoned forts and cannons?

Jeanette Healy — Google review

A great experience!! I wish the ferry options allowed for a longer visit, as it did feel rushed. You get about an hour to explore, however I would have probably wanted 2 hours to really immerse myself and read all the history. Also, the ferry will cost you $30+ per person just as a heads up.

Katelyn Austin — Google review

Wonderful place, can feel the past come alive here. The ferry ride gives you a chance to see other ships too. Currently a ticket is $35.. Note to park in the lot for the ferry, is $5 same as it has been the last 10+ years.

Matthew Fletcher — Google review

Very important events in our nation happened here. The rangers on the island & visitors center tell the story well. You have to take a boat ride to go. You can catch it from Liberty Square (difficult to find parking) or from Patriots point at Mount Pleasant. At the Point there is adequate parking for a small fee.

kathy harra — Google review

Honest revel I love national parks. The historian did a wonderful job sharing the history. We had 3 park rangers on our ferry. It was about 30 minutes each way plus about and 1 1/2 hours to tour. Not enough time to go through the museum. But loved the information and experience. FYI we had dolphins jumping in front of our ferry...so cool!

Janice Marley — Google review

Arrived at Patriots Point early and had to wait an hour for the next ferry over, which was fine. The trip across the bay was nice and met some nice folks both ways of the ride. Supposedly, there were dolphins on the way back, but I didn't see them. You are allotted one hour in the fort, which doesn't seem like a lot, but the fort isn't that big, so that's plenty. There is a museum there but did go in.Overall, it was a nice day, as you can see by the picture. The red line on the pole is how high the way used to be.

M S — Google review

Nice ferry ride to the fort with a speaker who tells a short story about the fort. Impressive information about our nations history. You're only allowed 1 hour on the fort, so don't take too long at the museum or gift shop! !

Angela Harvey — Google review

Visited on a Wednesday afternoon - rode the ferry ($37/person) to Fort Sumter, stayed an hour on the island, then rode back. There was a 10 minute history presentation by a ranger upon arrival, and the rangers were available for questions during the visit.Cool to see the cannons, brick walls, etc. But I personally felt it was an overpriced experience.Would recommend for anyone interested in historical monuments.

Jamie Oakland — Google review

A piece of history. You can still see the scars from the cannon fire. Great museum inside. Only problem is it's hard to take it all in during the hour you have at the fort. The boat ride there and back is enjoyable.

Harry Pennington — Google review

Fun historical site. Great place to help your kids have a sense of patriotism and learn some history! Our park ranger, Andy, was amazing. My only complaint was that our national park pass didn't do anything for us at this location.

Museums

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is a museum in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina that celebrates American military history. This includes exhibits on the USS Yorktown, destroyer and submarine docked here year-round as well as exhibits on the Medal of Honor Museum aboard the USS Yorktown. The museum also features displays on the history of Charleston Harbour and the United States Navy.

If you are visiting the Charleston area, this is a must do. Amazing to tour Patriots Point. Admission includes the Yorktown aircraft carrier, the USS Laffey Destroyer and the Vietnam Experience. If you want to see everything and take your time, you should plan on about 6.5 hours. You get to walk through many areas of the carrier and destroyer. Wear good, comfortable shoes. You will also be going up and down stairs that are sometimes more ladder than stair. There are also some spaces that are little tight. We thoroughly enjoyed our day at Patriots Point.

Jordan Yoshimine — Google review

If Patriot’s Point isn’t at the top of your Charleston agenda, rethink it! This is the absolute, hands-down must-see thing in Charleston. You get to go inside navy ships - large and small and understand the lives of a sailor and other military personnel aboard these ships. It was my first experience on a navy ship, so it was very informative and eye opening. I will say, there are a lot of tight quarters, narrow halls, and dozens of steep ladders/stairs to climb as your tour up and down and across the ships. I walked about 3 miles in total across 3.5 hours that we spent. We had to hurry through - and it still took us 3.5 hours. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it. The Vietnam experience is unique and worth walking through. The self guided tours were pretty well labeled so you can navigate your way through. Plenty of hands on things you can touch and watch, too.

Cortney Ayers — Google review

As an Italian visitor, my wife and I had the incredible opportunity to explore the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum just before a massive storm hit. It was an exhilarating experience, filled with American patriotism. The warships, especially the USS Yorktown, were awe-inspiring, and we felt lucky to witness them. The museum's dedication to preserving history was evident, and we were immersed in the lives of sailors through exhibits and artifacts. The sudden storm added to the adventure, emphasizing the indomitable spirit of the United States. A must-visit for a patriotic and immersive experience.

V M — Google review

Took my grandson and he loved it. I just followed behind him and let him lead the way! Definitely have to go back to see everything. It's a huge place with lots of history to view! Highly recommend! But keep in mind it is HOT on those ships!

Marlena Gardner — Google review

Combat veterans should have free admission to the USS Yorktown. I paid $19.00. Great carrier floating military museum. Asbestos fibers present, so do not make insulation friable. And do not put your fingers in your mouth, eyes, or other orifices after touching planes, deck, or other US Navy equipment from 1942-1945. Hellcats....awesome! Flight deck ..awesome. If you have no military background, you are at the mercy of the civilian tour guides at the info center on the vessel. Self guided tour is what I did...it was "smoking 🔥 hott" inside and top side of the vessel. Glad I went..

TK Cloonan — Google review

You can tour the whole aircraft carrier see planes jets and helicopters you can push buttons twist knobs turn handles. There is signage describing how equipment was used. There is an audio tour that goes along with the sections of the ship you're in. There was a middle school field trip there when I was touring and they were having a great time too.My parents enjoyed it. We could have spent 2 more hours. A new medal of honor section will be opened in May. Many of the guides and docents are servicemen who have worked on these kinds of boats and have so many stories and input and can answer questions in depth.I heard a little boy exclaim "this is a real ship!!!!" He was delighted.

Tip: Buy the Friends of the Feet pass. You only need to go twice to save money. I have visited this venue five or six times and each time it does not disappoint. If you’re not a local, try to come during the week if it all possible. Can be incredibly busy on the weekends. Parking is five dollars. If you don’t want to pay to park there are places that you can put your car nearby and walk in to the museum site.Perfect for families, groups with children, or anyone of any age. I thought it was wonderful to see it lit up at night. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

Johanna — Google review

We have visited a couple of times, and the museum is excellent. You can make this a quick trip and spend a couple of hours or an entire day. If you love military history, you could stretch this and make it a two-day trip if you want to see every little aspect, including the other ships.

Jeff Secrease — Google review

This was an amazing experience. I’m a former Marine and worked in aviation for 11 years. They had CH-46 and AH-1W helicopters on display. These are both planes I worked with. The sound effects of the plane really took me back! It was a pleasure to be able to sit inside the 46.

Alex Santiago — Google review

The ticket to Patriots Point gets you into a few different spaces: the U.S.S. Yorktown, the U.S.S. Laffey, an exhibit on the Vietnam War (there is possibly more but we were exhausted from seeing those). There is a lot of information on the history of the Yorktown, exhibits on the life aboard the Yorktown, a metal of honor museum, and historic aircraft. The exhibit on Vietnam does have sound effects meant to replicate the experience of being in battle. They cannot be heard from the ships.Bring walking shoes, water, and sunscreen. If you're heat sensitive make sure to plan lots of breaks. They do have a few a/c spots on the Yorktown, as well as vending machines and snack spots. They also have plenty of benches. Those with mobility issues will be able to visit but need to plan accordingly.

Allie Mead — Google review

We went on the "pay what you can weekend" and it was really fun. Lots and lots of walking. Not really wheelchair or stroller friendly. There's two ships and a Vietnam area/museum. There's also a museum inside the big ship and a bunch of planes on the deck. There's several self "tours" on the big ship (just follow where the 🐶 points) but my kids love doing their own thing and getting lost on the ship is more fun. There's some picnic tables outside next to the parking lot and there's a few tables and vending machines inside the big ship, but I recommend packing a lunch. They have a souvenir shop, as well.

Ratched01 — Google review

Exceptional exhibits. Seeing life simulated on the navy destroyer Laffey and the carrier Yorktown were very impressive. The volunteer offering information about the exhibits was knowledgeable. It was interesting to see the various planes up close.I was especially impressed with the Vietnam area which included realistic sound effects like helicopters flying overhead and bombs exploding. We were able to walk on a couple of helicopters. There is a gift shop. Also of interest was people spending the night on board the Yorktown, from scout troops to families with kids. Helicopter tours are also available. We arrived early when they opened and the parking lot filled up quickly. Plan on at least 2-3 hours to see everything.

Cathie Bales — Google review

This museum was super cool to see. Definitely recommend this as a must if you are visiting nearby. Going through the ship and seeing the real deal is awesome as well looking at all the cool planes.

SoBo — Google review

I went for a Navy Graduation ceremony on this ship. This place was full of historical information. I learned so much about the history of this ship and it’s service. That had an elevator to the top of the flight deck. Restrooms are easily accessible. The gift shop had plenty of items.Well worth the money to visit and wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Their is a lot of ground to cover. Also the cool breeze of being there early in the morning is the best time to visit during the summer months.

GLORIA ONTIVEROS — Google review

Really neat experience. We had amazing weather the weekend we came here. I'm amazed at how big that ship is. My sister is on an amphibious ship so it was cool to tour and think of her. There were so many nooks and crannies, and by far, it had the best looking mannequins I have ever seen with lifelike faces. I only mention that, because I've never seen anything like it.I would recommend eating before you come because it's easy to spend a whole day there, and there isn't anywhere to get food. When you pay for parking, your ticket and parking are valid all day. We came here the night before, and it was neat to see the lights on the ship as the sun was setting. Very beautiful! After spending so much time on the USS Yorktown, we breezed through the other ship. That one doesn't have air conditioning so when the weather is warm/hot watch out. Don't miss the Vietnam experience. There's some cool aircraft and watercraft hidden back there. My family would recommend checking this out for sure!

S L — Google review

Wonderful experience. Sets a very high bar for other museums.Limitless space to explore, content spans 3/4 wars, extremely knowledgeable volunteers, and high quality exhibits.I would visit again and highly recommend this experience if you’re in the area.

Devon — Google review

This was our second visit in 5 years, and we finally got to see some of the areas we hadn't didn't as much time on, such as The Laffy. New to us was the Vietnam experience, which was fascinating. I learned more about the Medal of Honor and some of the recipients. I love the way the museum brought personal experiences to life. I am thankful that they reinserted African Americans into the stories of WWII and their importance in serving our country.Make sure to ask about accessibility needs early so you can ask enjoy as much of the experience as possible.

Linda Clark — Google review

A fantastic experience - plan on at least 3-4 hours to tour both ships plus the Vietnam Experience, too.$5 all day parking - shared with the Fort Sumter ferry, too. There are x4 tours within the USS Yorktown that flow nicely from bow to stern. The USS Laffey was one of the better naval exhibits we have visited, to include some interactive displays and short films. The Vietnam Experience was well designed and had a lot of exhibits plus a short film, too.Highly recommended while in Charleston..!

Ryan Smith — Google review

As a WWII buff, I was enchanted by the history but even if you are not, it a good lesson to learn about life in a crowded space with 3600 men in one space. To see the bunks and kitchen and tight work spaces really makes me thankful for the men who served. There are dental clinics, OR, brig, engine room, mess halls and post office in addition to planes torpedoes and fighting equipment and miles of wire, conduit, low ceilings and watertight doors. There is much to see, so I took a tour but you could probably do an audio guide. The flight deck is full of planes and though you can’t go inside, it is amazing how big they are. It is nicely laid out into four separate short tours and I spent 3 hours just on the Yorktown. I spent a few minutes on the destroyer USS Laffey and would have liked more time. It is amazing to look at the small space in a turret filled with 14 men and 2 five inch guns. It’s 5 miles from town and I took the 41 bus because the ferry doesn’t run again until March. It was the highlight of my trip

Louis Ling — Google review

Loved it! I visited the USS Yorktown on June 28, 2008. It was awesome and our tour guide was actually a WWII veteran who was stationed aboard the ship! He was in his eighties, but still got around the ship quite well! The other ships (including a submarine) were fascinating as well! Finally, the Vietnam section was well worth visiting. This is a great site to visit if you love military history!

Bill Delperdange — Google review

For anyone interested in military history, this is the place to visit if you are ever in Charleston. And if you're not a fan of military history, this is a 'must see'. Great museum and a wonderful memorial to all that served in the past and for those serving today. I will plan a trip to Charleston just for this place. You can spend a couple of hours or an entire day exploring this place.

Vance Dominguez — Google review

The USS Yorktown is the only aircraft carrier you can tour. It's one of those things you really want to do, even if you don't it yet.How much time will it take? You can spend all day and not even come close to reading/seeing everything.Be sure you check out the USS Laffey and the Vietnam Experience. These bonuses are not to be missed.

Ben Hendricks — Google review

Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum was the next venue we visited after the Old Exchange Provost Dungeon as the Old Slave Mart Museum. There are several cool things about Patriots Point Museum. Firstly, there’s USS Yorktown, an aircraft carrier from WW2 located here on site. You’ll also be able to visit USS Laffey a destroyer from the same era. In addition, Patriots Point Museum houses the Cold War Memorial, the Medal of Honor Museum and is also home to the only Vietnam Experience Exhibit in the US.Established in the 1970s, the Patriots Point Development Authority was tasked to develop a naval and maritime museum with USS Yorktown, a WW2 aircraft carrier as its centerpiece at Charleston Harbour. Today, it is one of the most popular tourist attraction in South Carolina, with over 300,000 visitors each year. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to USS Yorktown, stepping on a WW2 aircraft carrier was so surreal…For the full review of Patriots Point & Naval Maritime Museum, visit 2bearbear today!

This gave a fascinating peek into life on an aircraft carrier from the 1940s-1060s. Give yourself a good two hours to see everything. Even then you need extra time to check out the Vietnam Vets tribute.

Bridge

Sights & Landmarks

The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, completed in 2005, is a bridge that spans the Cooper River between downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The bridge has a bike/walking lane and is illuminated at night. It replaced the Pearman Bridge and offers expansive panoramic views of the Charleston peninsula, Charleston harbor, and Mount Pleasant marina.

Must-do for visitors and locals alike! This iconic bridge is Charleston. Either driving across (at night is magical), or walking/running/biking, or on a boat on the water below; you’ll never get tired of taking in the Holy City from this vantage point. If you want to cross without a car, free car park is beneath and a very short walk to get on the starting point. It’s very safe despite the cars whizzing by. It is very windy most of the time as a heads up. So a sun hat, or loose items are not recommended. You will not be disappointed making this stop on your list!

Miss Positivity — Google review

I definitely recommend walking, biking, running, anything over this bridge. This bridge. The breeze was amazing and the views were incredible. My 9-year-old and I walked across to the USS Yorktown exhibit, and then walked back. It's 2 and 1/2 mi one way and a cool way to get some exercise in.

Very beautiful and scenic. Amazing views! This area has many treasures to explore. Be careful, it's a highly trafficked highway. Taking in the scenes can cause a10 car pile up.

Such a cool bridge to run or bike over! My kids and I ran ( ok they walked ) over it a few times. Lots of other people doing the same and super safe even with lots of traffic speeding past.Great way to get 5miles run in from one side to the other and back

Lee Barker — Google review

One of my best experiences during my visit to Charleston. The bridge itself is magnificent and an engineering marvel. If I lived here, I'd want to walk across it daily. Here are a few observations if you're planning to visit:Parking: I did a search for Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park on Google. There are a lot of parking spots located right under the bridge giving you easy access to the path. This is on the Mount pleasant side.Timing: The bridge is 2.5 miles long in one direction. There is an incline as you go up. Plan your timing accordingly based on your level of fitness and if you want to take a lot of photos.Weather: Three miles into the five mile trek, a massive storm blew in and I was soaked. There is nowhere to shelter (not a complaint...... This isn't something you'd expect on a bridge crossing). Check the weather before. The wind picks up very strongly at times so don't wear loose clothing etc.

N Maharaj — Google review

What a great walk, run or bike! 2 1/2 miles one way, park and get your exercise in. Highly recommended.

Fantastic suspension bridge. Unique triangles dominate the horizon from every direction. See lots of people getting their walk or run in on the Mt Pleasant side of the bridge. Highly visible from the deck of the docked carrier vessel CV-10.

TK Cloonan — Google review

This is an espectacular and cool bridge to run, walk or bike. The views and the scenery are amazing, I walked during sunset and it’s just a beautiful place to do your morning or evening routine. There are water fountains and the begging, mid point and the end of the route just in case you forgot your water bottle. If you’re in the Charleston area this is a must to do during your visit and it’s free !

Ismael D — Google review

A short walk from either side of the bridge and your view is picturesque. Walk, run, bike, scooter, or skate the length of the bridge if you want a bit of exercise. We took a casual walk 1/2 way and back. Then spent the rest off the evening walking in the park and in the pier. You can definitely make an afternoon or evening out of a visit to the bridge. There is a visitor center, cafe, gift shop, lots of riverfront seating all over, open grass areas and a gated playground for the kiddos.

Tina H — Google review

Hadn't been on this bridge in many years. Caught a few shots from a nearby parking lot before driving across the bridge yesterday, Tuesday 01-23-24.

I recommend parking on the Mount Pleasant side of the bridge. Parking is free just beyond the visitors center and there is easy access to the trail to the bridge

Lee Herbst — Google review

The Bridge stands as an architectural masterpiece, seamlessly connecting communities with its sleek design and efficient traffic flow. Beyond its utilitarian purpose, it serves as a symbol of unity and resilience, captivating all who traverse its span. With its towering steel columns and intricate lattice work, this magnificent structure leaves an indelible mark on the landscape and in the hearts of all who behold it.

Swamp garden with giant cypress trees offering boat tours plus a butterfly house attraction.

This place is absolutely beautiful! If you love the Notebook, you want to take this guided boat tour! So lovely and relaxing, even the gators didn’t bother us!! I never would have thought a black swamp could be so wonderful!!! A must do!!As far as the rest of the park, it is absolutely lovely too!! I wish for two things….. more butterflies in their butterfly pavilion and maybe a little place to get burgers and fries!! But honestly, this is just a wonderful place to visit!

Lyn S. — Google review

Was a cute and interesting place to visit! Man made swamp with lots of history and allure, especially by Hollywood since many movies and TV shows have been filmed here. All this was shared in the guided boat tour, but you could also row yourself for free, and plenty of trails for hiking (just watch for roaming gators). Small live fish and reptile aquarium and a butterfly house were also included. Great experience overall! They also have holiday specific events like Halloween and Christmas!

Joshua Frejosky — Google review

Highly recommend! It's really hard to find this type of experience that is this cheap. You can take your own self guided paddle boat tour at no extra cost. We had a 6-8 foot long gator come out and lead around for a few minutes, that made my whole vacation. The playground is really nice and the nature exhibits are awesome. The employees were 10 out of 10. I have nothing negative to say about it.

Don Adams — Google review

I’ve had this place on my wanna go list for year and it was waaay more incredible than I thought it would be 😍 If you’re interested in taking out one of the boats just head straight to the dock because the line can get quite long. Once in the boat we thought we had to stick to the course so we pretty much speed ran it 😂 Next time we will take our time and explore. Being out on the boat was dream -one of the most magical and serene moments of my life. LOVED it!

Bea Hall — Google review

Beautiful gardens with many walking trails of varying difficulty. Rowing a boat through the swamp is free and you get up and close with tons of gators, it's amazing. There is also a little aquarium and nice gift shop. The snow cone stand is a perfect touch on a hot day, too. Great value for the price of a ticket.

Julie Hogan — Google review

Amazing place to visit. Went early on a Sunday in July, timing was just right. Definitely do the swamp boat guided tour, it was amazing. They start the first ride at 10am, you have to buy the tickets in the gift shop, and they're $5/person. Make sure you buy the tickets early because the boats fill up and sell out. Staff was all friendly and helpful. The trails were very well maintained, with most of them as paved blacktop and some were a little rougher as you started to get farther out. I would say that they had trails for all abilities, if you have someone in your group that can't walk far, there's some short ones and there were plenty of benches on the trails. I would defintiely recommend that you bring water, it was very hot in late July! But the swamp boat ride was incredibly peaceful. Amazing how still the water is!

Joe Miklovic — Google review

It's one of the absolute best hidden gems I've ever visited. No other place is like it for the price. We were able to take the boat tour, which takes about 45 min on your own without a tour guide. It will forever be a core memory for my family. We saw an alligator nest ( it was breeding season) and lots of turtles. It is an incredible little experience for all ages.

Anthony Midgett — Google review

Cypress Gardens is a must-see! The scenery is gorgeous, and well kept. The boats are very fun, giving you a real-life notebook experience. We got there when it opened and there was no wait. The aquarium and other amenities were great to see as well, with a nice walking trail. Beautiful place!

This is a wonderful place for all ages. Walking paths, paddle-your-own rowboat through the swamp, large playground, swamparium, & butterfly house are all included in entry fee. There are also boat tours for a small fee and a gift shop. Great people to help you with the boat rides, too. I stayed for hours, enjoying every moment.

DAWN QUIGLEY MCCLURE — Google review

Honestly 10/10 would recommend. It was breathtaking, peaceful, and so much fun. Plus your $10 entrance fee gets you access to self-row a little boat around the swamp. We saw a baby gator and it was so gorgeous.

Cypress Gardens is an absolute dream. A hidden Gem located in Moncks Corner, it’s filled with serene views and breathtaking wildlife along with a friendly staff. The gorgeous grounds were part of the filming for “The Notebook” and my husband and I really felt like we got to live our own version of the boat scene. It’s so peaceful out on the water even with the gator population. They are majestic creatures and they were basking in the sun as we rode by. We also got to stop in to the butterfly room and the aquarium to see some other animals. The cherry on top of this whole trip is that this experience can be had for a low cost. Just pay a modest entry fee and the entire site is yours. We will definitely come back again before the year is out.

Beautiful park with walking trails and a canoe tour! We did the self-guided boat tour and it was wonderful! It took about 45 minutes and the “swamp” was easy to navigate with the markings on the cypress trees. The reptile/amphibian habitat house offered a break from the outside and had lots to see and learn. Would highly recommend!

I was visiting my daughter with my 4 year old grandson (her nephew) and we were looking for something to do with him that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. This place was perfect! Tickets were only $10 per person over 5 years old and you can stay as long as you want. You pay as you drive onto the property so you can bring lunch or snacks. There are several playground areas beside the parking lot with lots of picnic tables you can eat at as well. They have an awesome reptile/amphibian building with fish, crocodiles, snakes, turtles, lizards, etc., as well as a butterfly house and several bird cages. I highly recommend adding this to your itinerary for the next trip to the Goose Creek/Charleston area!

Took some friends from out of town. We had an absolute blast. I would highly recommend going in the row boats and seeing the sites. There are so many things to experience: LowCountry history, beautiful flowers, animals, and the biggest alligator I have ever seen in my life. Your kids will love it also.

Allen G — Google review

Love this place! You can easily spend half a day here. We went as a group on a Sunday and added the guided boat tour option for an additional $5 per person and it was worth it. Our guide was very nice and friendly and very knowledgeable. If you do not want to do the guided option, you can still do the paddle boat option on your own and we saw many people doing that. Butterfly garden is nice too. Plenty of parking available.

Sanjeeta Pai — Google review

This place was enjoyable. Really enjoyed the row boats to make you were apart of the Notebook. Got to see several alligators while on the self guided boats. Walked around the pink path to the green path which was fun. Plenty of shade throughout the park. For $10 per person felt it was definitely worth the cost. Last garden type place I visited was in Vegas was $17 per person and not nearly as beautiful or fun.

Mike Williams — Google review

Great place to visit - probably one of the best value tourist attractions in the area. They have an awesome playground if you have kids as well as a butterfly house and some birds (including peaco*cks). Guided boat tour takes an hour which may be a bit long for the really little kids if you have them but they’ll still be able to have a great time at the other things that are available. Everyone that works here is super nice as well and the tour guide was knowledgeable and funny. Great place to take pictures at as well. Parking is free but you do need to pay to enter the park (aka there’s not an additional fee to park)

Bobby Kaye — Google review

I cant explain how amazing it was all for 10 dollars a person. The place is beautiful and great for kids to include butterfly exhibit and play ground! The boat ride was so fun and very enjoyable for my son and family. Please go and have fun with your family here! I will 100 percent be back!

Jacob Kinter (PvtJacobClutch) — Google review

Such a fun place. Definitely recommend doing the boat ride. It was a 30 minute wait but well worth it. They suggest it takes about 45 minutes to do the loop in the boat but if you have two good rowers you can do it in 20 minutes. Very fun to get up close to some alligators and butterflies.

Addy Merrill — Google review

Wow, what an incredible day at Cypress Gardens! My family and I had an amazing time exploring the beautiful gardens and enjoying the variety of activities. But what truly made our experience stand out was the exceptional hospitality from the staff, especially Menager Jackie ( hope I’m spelling her name correctly) ! They went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, even treating my son to a special toy and a private alligator showing! The attention to detail and kindness shown by the staff made our visit truly unforgettable. We can't wait to come back and experience the magic of Cypress Gardens again. 5 stars isn't enough - we give it 10 stars!"

If you do anything in Charleston you need to go here! Made so many great memories between spotting the abundance of wildlife, the boat ride, and a leisurely stroll around the pond. Would love to comeback and visit again at a later date!

Tyler Johnson — Google review

This is an amazing place to visit. Loved everything about it. We had different age levels in our group from teenager to grandma, and we all loved it. There are self guided boat tours that you paddle, which have arrows to guide your trip. You can see alligators, butterflies, birds, reptiles, and more. There are cute trails to walk around and see the wildlife. It was very cheap and worth spending a day at. They have a playground for little ones, and you can bring a picnic lunch. We highly recommend it and would definitely go back.

Heather Eiynk — Google review

If you are a fan of the movie The Notebook this is absolutely a must. We were able to row our own boat through the swamp (about 50 minutes round trip) for no additional cost from the $10 entrance fee. We saw massive alligators as well. We will be coming back again hopefully in the spring to catch blooming flowers.

Callen Smith — Google review

Great experience seeing the animals. You can even row in the swamp. Didn't see any alligators but others have. There is also a trail that goes around the lake. Line for kayaking does get long so get there early in the morning.

Trappist monks at this abbey welcome the public for guided tours, retreats & gift-shop visits.

This is such a calm, serene place, where you can get away from the traffic and the crowd. The oaks are grand and marvelous. The gardens are beautiful.

Today I visited Mepkin Abbey, a real and active Roman Catholic Monastery. This is where Moncks Corner gets it's name. It's on the Cooper River in the Charleston Metro area. It has beautiful live oaks; flowers; sculptures and river views. Enjoy the photos. I can't wait to bring my children here.

Roger Fincher — Google review

So beautiful and peaceful! We went a little after 5 on a Thursday and didn’t see anyone else there (except a man who kind of shooed us out at like 5:50). Worth going out of the way to get here (especially because it’s free!) Be aware that the gift shop closes at 4, while the rest of the area open to the public closes at 6.

Haylee Dahlin — Google review

Beauty, simplicity, and peace. These are the gifts of Mepkin. My favorite place to be on retreat.

David Fuquay — Google review

A magical, mystical place where Heaven and Earth meet despite it's horrific history as a former plantation and the inexcusable brutality of stealing and enslaving Africans and their descendants to work there (and around the US).There is some comfort in knowing that the Trappist Monks who now live and work the land have begun a visible and palpable effort to acknowledge the ugly plantation history through their African cemetery, gardens, and other physical structures of "racial reconciliation" at Mepkin Abbey. That said, I felt the presence of God in one of the most intense ways at Mepkin Abbey! So, my visit to the Monastery is unforgettable, and I will continue to go back and support the Monastery.

Peacefulness. We visited on a Sunday and it was quiet with only a couple of other visitors. We walked the gardens and labyrinth enjoying the quiet solitude. It's a lovely get away.

Visiting MA has been in my list for 7+ years. We had guests visiting for Thanksgiving and thought this was the perfect time to head up. Checked them out online to get the necessary info (hours, location, etc.). Planned out our day, drive 1+ hours to get there to read a sign on the door stating “Sorry No Tours Today”. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! We still walked in to inquire and it was confirmed. We inquired as to why it’s not posted online and Angel (worker behind counter) said that wasn’t her job. No apologies, no customer service, nothing. She later explained they gave volunteers off that week because of holiday. So they did plan ahead for volunteers, just didn’t care to inform public.I appreciate volunteers and their service. They deserve a break. MA needs to keep future guests informed about lack of tours.Sadly, I just cannot return because of the lack of care and concern Angel had. I left without even buying the Christmas presents I wanted to purchase for family members, plus the mushrooms I heard were amazing. 💔This review is not to give them a bad score. But rather to inform future visitors to CALL AHEAD!

It was very nice and peaceful to come visit and pray with the monks. Their botanical gardens are very beautiful, and they gave a pretty comprehensive tour about the history of the Abbey and plantation site. They have a gift shop that also acts as the starting point of the tour. It's perfect for picnics and for self reflection. They also offer retreats here and a chance to live the lifestyle of a Trappist monk for a time. They host the Nativity scene festival here as well, and people come from all over to see it

Andrew Canton — Google review

My time at the monastery this week was grand!!!I did not audibly pray the entire stay. No worship music (except an hour the final day before 7p). No sounds of nature to soothe me into sleep when I was restless. I wanted to get all my stuff "purely" sKraight from the source this week. ANNNDDDI liked it!I look forward to doing it again, even annually, except...I want to do it without a Spiritual Director involved next time.It was a great experience. However,

Really enjoyed my visit to Mepkin Abbey. They have a tour or you can explore on your own, or better, do both. Learned a lot on the tour I would not have fully appreciated exploring on my own. Glad we were able to attend morning vespers. I am not Catholic, but that does not matter.

Mepkin Abbey is such a beautiful place to visit. We enjoyed the market, the gift shops and exploring the grounds. Definitely worth the drive!

Stephanie Krauss — Google review

I never get tired of going out to this serene place. One of the most beautiful places to see in the lowcountry and off the beaten path for sure. Lots of landscape to have picnic or take photos. I absolutely reccomend taking the walking tour over to the chapel and sitting in on service. It was ver interesting to watch. You also get lots of great info on the tour. Drive back towards the river to see the tree sculptures of Christ...they are breathtaking. There's a labyrinth you can walk and a wonderful gift shop with unique pieces. It's all free except the walking tour and in think that's $5.

We enjoyed our visit to the park. I took my 7 year old and she enjoyed looking at the exhibits in the museum and walking on the boardwalk. We saw a black snake and several turtles on our walk. At the end of the day she enjoyed playing on the playground there as well. We spent about 2 hours there.

I’ve been coming to this historic location for years. There is so much to do and see. The museum is a must, and now the fairly new “Revolutionary War Fort Fair Lawn” with its inside exhibition and the outside trails and walking tour to see the fort. The Interpretive Center is fantastic, with so much to see and do. The outside trails are a must to walk or canoe. So many programs are offered. I highly recommend that you check out their informative website for much more information. So much nature to see.

Love this park ! Beautiful view of the water and awesome nature trails. Educational and informative. Learned interesting facts about space among other things that I did even know . got to see and use several different types of telescopes. Amazing adventure.

Peaceful nature trails. This park is great if you need to get away from city noise. The wood trail is definitely for nature lovers.

VeVeCole And-Family — Google review

I was really impressed by the .5 mile Alligator Loop/red trail - it was lined with nice signage, and the views are beautiful! Plenty of wildlife to look for. Boardwalks were a little slick, but I didn't notice any loose nails/boards like older reviews mentioned, and anywhere the boardwalk slopes, they've installed wood strips and mesh for better traction. 4 stars because after doing the red loop, I decided to go down the longer Woodland trail (green) that connects to the Canal trail (purple). These trails are not well maintained, especially Woodland, and I do not recommend a summer walk down there unless you really like the idea of whacking your way through a swamp. The first part of Woodland looks fine, but it quickly narrows to being muddy/super overgrown, and you'll get a face full of spiderwebs every 10ft unless you wave a stick around the entire time. The few planks that have been laid on the trail to help with mud are loose and you can lose balance easily. Being so miserable was my fault - I could've turned back - but I would hope for better maintenance from a park that charges $5/adult.I do like this park, but I'm not sure if I'll return as I'd like to get my money's worth of trails. If I do come back, I'll stay on the shorter loops that are closer to the buildings, and take time to go in the museum (it didn't appear to be open when I was there, but I didn't investigate as I was tired after the swamp-hike and wanted to leave 😅).

Lauren — Google review

This is a really awesome find. They have a house where Lord Colleton lived in the early 16 to 1700s. There is also a fort hidden in the woods. Lots of trails for hiking and right on the upper Cooper River. Great place for picnics and events. I suggest checking them out if you are in Moncks Corner and appreciate history.

Joshua Widener — Google review

This is a great park. Nice nature trails for an easy hike or relaxing stroll with a combination of natural foot paths and boardwalks that wander through the wetlands and along the canal with great lookouts for spying waterbirds. There are a number of very informative plaques throughout, a great educational element. Love this place, for a quick escape into nature. However, the historical site and the little museum located here is also a must, super educational, a great learning expedition for the family or for the history buff and the curious, rather local or tourist. And I have to congratulate the museum on such a thoroughly well put together little educational center they have, the exhibits are very well done and super interesting. They do a good job exhibiting and explaining archaeological evidence from the area, they cover the history and construction of the canal and the site, the development of a very primitive attack submarine used during battles off the coast of SC and the natural fauna as well. A charming little park where you can enjoy the outdoors and include some fun learning moments as well. I highly recommend it.

My husband and I had our wedding at the Stony Landing House at Old Santee Canal Park on 03.18.23. We looked at countless venues and decided to take a chance on this location, and we are SO glad that we did! Upon our first time visiting the park and the Stony Landing House, we knew that this was absolutely the perfect place to celebrate our marriage. The staff here are some of the most hospitable and helpful people we have ever met. Cindy helped us with initial questions until the wedding coordinator, Beezie Fleming, took over. These women never hesitated to answer any questions we had and were always so nice and outgoing! It goes without saying that the park in itself is beautiful and VERY well taken care of. This is a location worth visiting if you are looking to take a trip to see wildlife, beautiful views, or even host your wedding!

Beautiful place for a walk! We always see happy turtles sunning on logs and there are so many cool birds. The Interpretive Center is small but a cool little spot to explore. The kid’s play area is pretty small too, but just right for a bit of fun after a long walk.

The Avian Conservation Center & Center for Birds of Prey is a sanctuary dedicated to the rescue and shelter of birds of prey such as eagles, owls, hawks, and falcons. Visitors can witness these magnificent creatures up close and learn about their conservation efforts. The staff is known for their care and passion for rehabilitating injured birds. Many visitors have had the opportunity to interact with various bird species during private tours or public demonstrations.

Where do I begin? My husband and I traveled from out of state and are huge owl fans, so the center was kind enough to arrange a private tour for us. We got to spend almost two hours with the director and met many amazing birds up close. They do incredible work at the center for the bird population - from medical to rescue to conservation work. Really passionate about their work and such welcoming people. The facility is incredibly maintained, well-organized, beautiful. If you're in Charleston, absolutely visit this beautiful destination. It's an easy drive under 30 minutes.

Wow! This was a great experience for our family and they really aim to educate visitors about their beautiful birds. We experienced both the flight demonstration and the owl flight demonstration and both were incredible. You really get a chance to witness and get up close to magnificent birds. They are also doing great work to rescue and rehabilitate injured birds. Love this place!

HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking for a little something to do that’s not on the beaten path or something you would think of as a day adventure. Super informative, the staff are great! It’s worth sitting through the demo and watching the birds they bring out and then walking the grounds. Everything is super clean and the bird enclosures are immaculate. Very impressed, we will absolutely be back.

Aaron Akins — Google review

This place is phenomenal. They do flight demonstrations and discuss the variances of flight and hunting. They flew owls, a red tail and a turkey vulture. They also took time to ask questions. Very knowledgeable people working for a great cause and they are all volunteers. When they are done, you can tour 2 areas (walk) where they keep the birds.Note: Slightly long walk across a fairly flat field to get to the bleacher like seats. It is South Carolina; it will be HOT in the summer so I suggest appropriate clothes, a hat and a water.

D Kittinger — Google review

The place is absolutely amazing! The types of birds are all beautiful and cool! I was late to see the other things they showed but I still had a great time!

Beautiful birds and wonderful staff and volunteers. The lady that hosted the flight demonstration (Addie) was so knowledgeable and did a beautiful job sharing her knowledge of the birds.

Having worked in the zoo community and visited many exotic animal facilities all over the country, The Center for Birds of Prey really stood out to me as an outstanding measure we should all strive to reach for! The flight demo was so intriguing to watch and anywhere you were in the crowd was a great place to be as birds fly overhead and all around. The adjoining presentation was so informative and entertaining. Stephen made it simple enough for kiddos to understand, but never watered down the information. Young and old alike all had a wonderful time! After the presentation, I spoke to multiple animal caregivers. My visit was on New Year's Eve and the staff was so patient and happy to be there answering my gazillion questions! The love and respect they have for these animals is just so apparent in their words and actions. Afterwards, we were all free to roam the guest facing parts of the center- which is HUGE, so serene, and even more beautiful. That said, words and pictures don't do it justice! You simply have to see for yourself! If you're visiting the area make sure to put this on your itinerary!

Anna Taylor — Google review

The Center for Birds of Prey was one of the highlights of our trip! The flight demonstrations were amazing, as were the presentations about the birds. It was such a treat to see not only raptors, but also a wide variety of owls! You get a multitude of photo opportunities, if you enjoy photography. The birds are well-cared for in every way. The staff and volunteers are highly-knowledgeable and friendly. If you love birds of prey, plan to spend most of the day there - we were there 5 hours and the time just flew by (pun intended!).

Great Experience. Super fun birds of all kind raptors, eagles, owls. Unfortunately I did not get there in time for any shows. But I hear they are great! So get there Early. You can hold the bird claws. Bring some bug spray because there are mosquitoes. I went with my family so it is family firendly! You should go to Sea Wee after for good food.

Been a huge fan of birds of prey for as long as I can remember so had to check this place out while we were in town, accidentally stumbled upon it on maps. It was everything I was hoping it would be: up close and personal with several species of large birds! Staff was super cool and informative on the different bird types. As part of the demonstration, had one of the birds fly about an arms length away!My wife, who was nowhere near as excited as me to go, really enjoyed the visit as well!

We visited the Avian Center on Saturday, and it was fantastic. The flight show of the selected birds was so cool. We enjoyed being able to get up close to see some of the birds of prey. The volunteers were knowledgeable and very pleasant. The fella (did not catch is name) that gave the talk was so entertaining and answered everyone's questions. After the show we did a self-guided tour around the enclosures and the saw owls, falcons, buzzards, eagles, etc. The grounds are well kept, and it was a great day. Since this is a 501c3 all the ticket money goes back to the center. It is a beautiful place to visit and very educatable for kids and adults.

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic experience with Carly and Kelly as our guides. They were a lot of fun and kept us safe. I was pretty nervous at the beginning but was worth every penny spent. I have an ABC club that decided to celebrate this month with Ziplining. We are so grateful we decided to go with Charleston Zipline adventures because they truly went out of their way to make sure we felt safe while having such a wonderful time. Our guides Josh and Emily were a perfect combination of fun, kind, and safe. Matthew (the owner) was the person who took my reservation and went the extra mile to be extremely accommodating and welcoming. We all loved our experience and would recommend anyone and everyone to go!

A beautiful trip where we saw animal tracks, wildlife, history, and views we had never seen before! We found a washed up boat, starfish, knobbed whelk shells (one with a snail still living in it!), sand dollars, dolphins, it was incredible!Annie was very knowledgeable and a big help in making the trip informative and exciting!I live 10 hours away but I for sure want to come back. There's too much to see and learn for just one trip!

Great tour! I will however desuade anyone who isn't in the best shape from taking this perticular your. Just to get to the beach is around a mile and a half. Then if you want to go to the bone yard(which is awesome) it's another mile and a half. That's one 1 way though so you still have all that way to walk back. As someone not so physically fit I definitely struggled a lot and am definitely quite sore afterwards. That being said it was a great tour. The guide was great. He stopped when there were good places to take pictures and seemed to know the area quite well. I did enjoy it even though it was a much longer walk than I anticipated or wanted. All in all I probably wouldn't go on this one again just because of the distance. But for someone more fit I'd 💯 recommend. Another thing to keep in mind is the bugs. They will devour you alive if you forget bug spray like I did. It doesn't matter if you're wearing a shirt or not. They go right through it.

Both the Naturalist and Ferry Captain were extremely knowledgeable, giving informative presentations, both going to and coming back from Bulls Island. They also gave excellent directions on how to best navigate the island once there. I went specifically to go birding and had a great time.

John Becker — Google review

Went out with some friends recently and we had a blast. The island is absolutely beautiful! We saw tons of wildlife, and the beach and forest are amazing. The guide and captain were both very nice, informative, and punctual. I look forward to the next time I can go back.

Wonderful experience totally worth it. Bring bug spray, hat, snacks, lots of sunscreen, and lots and lots of water. We had a wonderful time but it was hot. Collected several shells including a few small conch shells and even found some sand dollars. Came across a boat wreck an old fiberglass boat, and an old shipwreck that they say is from the 1800s.

Kathy Morgan — Google review

Excellent service. And super friendly and knowledgeable captain. Just a great overall experience. Can't wait to do it again when I return to the area

Curtis Beebe — Google review

The captain and guides were great!! Super knowledgeable about the local wildlife and ecosystem. They really went out of their way to make the trip both fun and educational. Bulls islamd was great! The boneyard is a must-see really amazing...also as a side note, the summer mosquitoes on the inner island are no joke. When they say bring bug spray, do yourself a favor and bring it.

Joey Adams — Google review

Partly cloudy, low 80s, breezy, low tide. Perfect conditions to explore Bulls Bay. I took the 900am-2:30pm. The crew is very informative and enthusiastic during the 30min ferry trip. We saw dolphins on the way out. On the reserve, I was shocked how many alligators were out, I would guess hundreds. Make sure to wear your walking shoes, loose clothing and pack on the bug spray. I will be back to explore the south end and the boneyard beach on the north end .

Gretchen Schaeberle — Google review

It was a wonderful boat trip! Very impressive! The captain and ranger were very professional and we got to see a bald eagle hunting a great blue heron up close. The mosquitoes on the island are very plentiful!

Zed Huang — Google review

Were able to see boneyard beach and many gators, primarily in alligator alley.

Jon Miller — Google review

We had a great day at Bulls Island! We made the hike to the beach in 45 minutes as advertised, but the allure of - and further hike to - the boneyard made us stay longer for the next ferry. Believe what you read about the mosquitoes, if you leave the 'roads' for the trails you will be eaten! Thanks to our awesome captain- and mate-naturalists for teaching us the difference between conch and whelk, how whelk pry open clams, the intricate steps of blue crab reproduction, and the importance of salt marsh estuary conservation. This was our favorite part of our visit to Charleston!

Hampton Plantation State Historic Site, founded in 1735, is a site dedicated to interpreting the history of slavery. The plantation mansion tour is unique and informative with both male and female guides who are extremely knowledgeable about history. It's an excellent place to visit, learn and take a tour from Hannah. The property provides numerous trails for exploration with rice growing as a surprising highlight of South Carolina's past.

The tour of the plantation mansion is great, unlike any other plantation mansions we did. I took the one with the woman tour guide, very interesting and informative. A friend had the male tour guide, said he was also extremely knowledgeable about history and hilarious with bad jokes.

Michael Zambito — Google review

There is a lot to do here, and not just the tour of the house. That is great too, though. You can walk around and read the signs that tell you everything you need to know about the history of this place. There are also good views of Hampton Creek, the rice fields, and controlled burns. Archibald Rutledge was the last owner of this historic home before the he sold it to the state park service. There is a sign that honors him and shows a poem that he wrote which is a beautiful poem in my opinion. You can walk to his burial site and through his beautiful garden. The Washington Oak is also a very cool landmark. It is a massive oak tree that is supposedly still standing because of George Washington's visit. The ladies who lived at this plantation at one point were obsessed with George Washington, and when he visited, one of them mentioned that the tree was going to be cut down. But allegedly, George Washigton said "let it stay," and so it is still here today. This is not confirmed, and is just a family legend. However, it is confirmed that George Washington did visit this plantation. The house itself is very large and exquisite, though not restored. The inside is not decorated, but there are plenty of signs that tell you all about its history. Our tour guide was very helpful and explained the plantation's history very well. I definitely recommend the tour if you come here. Tours are also quite cheap.

Had a great experience. Never knew south Carolina grew rice. They had a great little hike around the property. Beautiful plantation

Hannah was a great knowledgeable tour guide of the house. The house and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Also have a small store with souvenirs and snacks available to purchase. We had a great time.

I arrived after hours so no one around. Fortunately, the Ultimate Outsiders Stamp was at the outdoor kiosk so I got my book stamped. The last of the 47 SC State Parks. Woo-Hoo!I then walked the beautiful grounds & read the information placards. The big house and cook house are located a ways back off the main road, next to the river. Def worth a visit.

My wife and I visit a lot of museums, historic landmarks, etc., and I don't think I've ever walked away from somewhere like this with a better understanding of its history and significance than I did at Hampton Plantation.Hannah, the ranger who led the tour, which we had the pleasure of taking by ourselves, was deeply knowledgeable about the property. She was a wealth of knowledge about the structure itself, the timeline of its additions, damage, restorations, etc., but more importantly of both those who lived, and were enslaved at Hampton Plantation, as well as the descendants of both, and their lasting impacts and connection to both the plantation itself and the surrounding area. You could tell that she has a lot of love for her job and for the plantation and those who played a role in its history, as she was not at all bothered by our countless questions, but rather seemed glad that we were asking them. After taking the house tour, we walked the gardens and grounds to explore more of the beauty and history. We even saw an armadillo that did not at all seem to be bothered by our presence. Since we came in the dead of winter, there were no bugs, and many of the trees were surprisingly still flowering. I would recommend visiting Hampton Plantation to anyone, but based on the other reviews it seems like winter is an especially good time to visit.

Brady Bowyer — Google review

Great place to visit and learn about the history. I highly suggest the tour. Hannah did an amazing job! Plenty of places/trails to walk and explore.

This site is a historical treasure. The grounds are beautiful (except for the swarms of mosquitos...BRING BUG SPRAY).Very informative signage and rangers at the site. Great gift shop too.

This is a beautiful area to visit. The old mansion is very well preserved. The magnolia trees are gorgeous.

Beautiful grounds and Plantation home. The weather was beautiful when we went, but the mosquitoes ran us off the grounds quickly, even with bug spray. Will come back to visit in the fall/winter to see if we can get less bites and enjoy our visit a bit more!

Jessica Smyre — Google review

Really enjoyed our visit here. I believe it is more subdued than some of the other plantations but you definitely got to appreciate what it was like. 100 plus slaves were here and I hope that more of their history is uncovered.

Black Friday Special at South Carolina State Parks got us traveling the hour drive to Hampton Plantation State Historical Site for free park access and free tour of the original house. The plantation was established in 1735 on the banks of Hampton Creek, north of McClellanville, South Carolina and now home to the remote, final remnants of a colonial-era rice plantation. Arriving via a dirt road some miles off of US 17 we discovered a small gift shop/welcome center, modern bathrooms, kitchen house and the main house. Being that the plantation is no longer in use, the majority of the property has been claimed with its natural surroundings. A few rough trails do showcase the magnitude of size of the property, the surrounding marshlands, deserted gardens and grave sites. Ancient, majestic oak trees with Spanish moss laden limbs dot the landscape. The only two remaining structures is the view from the outside of the kitchen house and the main house. Tours inside normally come at an additional charge and feature one of the earliest examples of a temple front in domestic architecture. The house is two and 1/2 story wood-frame, dormered hip roof, clapboard siding and raised brick foundation. The inside of the house is nearly gutted do to failed updates and age of the structure but give a general understanding and magnitude of what the house was originally like. Our guided tour was done by a volunteer, not a ranger, that was informative and underscored the history of a slave plantation. Being free it was worth the drive.

Philip Ward — Google review

Jason, the tour guide was so nice and knows a lot about the home, the area and the history of Charleston. Many beautiful garden paths with flowers still blooming in winter.

C M — Google review

We enjoyed a very informative and interesting tour of the plantation. The park ranger did such an excellent job. We were glad we took the drive over. There were bugs so we didn’t go into the woods. We had a state park pass so there was not a charge for the tour. I would recommend checking this site out.

Mary Beason — Google review

The rangers were very helpful kind. I felt welcomed to explore the sites. The tour was enlightening. Tour was free with state park pass. Other wise, minimal cost. The history of the family and other inhabitants was a "hard piece" of American early days. You can almost feel the souls. I do plan to return. To stroll the areas of the property I missed. I recommend the tour first. Then, stroll. Look for the pecan and walnut trees (and others ; >) pay attention to sign. The entrance looks like a gated driveway.

Really impressive and authentic plantation and mansion with a really nice and very informative tour by the male guide! George Washington actually visited this plantation once and the enormous oak in front of the house (450 years old🙏) survived because of him! Had a nice chat with our guide about our old house in the Netherlands. Very good to visit✅

Hopsewee Plantation is an 18th-century estate that offers educational tours, film screenings, and dining. The plantation has a rich history as a rice plantation and boasts past owners with notable backgrounds. Although photography is not permitted inside the house, visitors can marvel at the unique features such as the decorative melting candle accents on some of the rooms' moldings.

We didn't have time to do the house tour, but the museum tour was so informative. The guide was knowledgeable and allowed questions. If you like tea rooms, you have to try theirs. They have the most varied menu of any tea room I have ever visited. The food and service was delicious! I plan to return.

Terri Austin — Google review

My family had our own private tour of the plantation house learning about the old rice plantation and the history of the past owners. Since we're not huge on history, it wasn't really our cup of tea, but it was quiet and away from the bustle of Charleston. My kids loved the cat who followed them around for a while outside, but were a bit bored with the history lesson. Photos are not allowed in the house itself, which was unfortunate given some of the cool features of the house such as the melting candle accents on several of the rooms' moldings. Given the huge crowds heading to other plantations in the area, this was definitely a breath of fresh air to explore.

Such a beautiful place to visit and have southern afternoon tea. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They really appreciated the business and loved to accommodate any needed food allergies. Savories were good, but wish there was less mayonnaise offerings. It was a bit rich. The homemade crackers were devine. In addition to the offerings, I had a cup of the tomato basil soup and it was delicious. We also shared the chicken tenders and they were good. I liked that they came with fresh fruit. The scones were huge and it was nice that the waitress took our scone order right away to make sure she could out aside the ones we wanted. There were a lot of tea offerings and it was nice that you could have them decaffeinated if you'd like as well as warm or iced. The desserts were very good. You are definitely full after having just the tea and courses. The grounds are just gorgeous with all of the oak tress with Spanish moss.

You know when some days are just spectacular? Today was one of them.Attic to Cellar tour at Hopsewee Plantation then afternoon tea.Tour guide Jonah was incredible, we could really tell he was passionate about the history of the home and property. And his enthusiasm and knowledge was infectious. The afternoon tea was fantastic, the chef is amazing and our server Augusta was most friendly and took pleasure in answering all of our questions. And we even ended up having a interesting conversation with Mr Beattie the owner of the 1740 home and resident until last year. He was having lunch right next to us.What a day! If you ever get a chance, this is a South Carolina gem worthwhile visiting.Oh and Butternut the cat is most friendly!

We enjoyed going to Hopsewee last year with my cousin. So we came back when my sister came to visit. We went to the tea service and enjoyed it very much, also did the Gulliah talk. Unfortunately since my sister has a rolling walker and the tour is not handicapped assessable she was not able to do the house tour. Perhaps you could do a video tour for handicapped people to watch since they can't access the house.

Hopsewee Plantation is a wonderful, beautiful place to visit. The staff is friendly and helpful. We chose not to take the house tour but just to walk around the river walk, eat lunch and visit the museum. The Tea Room is beautifully decorated and the menu is full of aromatic, delicious, mouth-watering selections. We chose shrimp and grits and the low country sampler. Both were delicious. My favorite part of the visit was the Hopsewee Historical Museum encompassing the rice industry in the low country. Vennie Deas Moore is the curator of the museum. She is also a descendant of the enslaved rice workers. She not only has a sparkling personality but also has a vast amount of knowledge about the rice industry and genealogy. I wish I could have spent the entire day just listening to her stories. She is a gem of a person – exceptional in every way.

Had a great time at Hopsewee Plantation for Full Southern Tea. Will go back. Grounds are beautiful, view by the river is wonderful. Our server, Deb, was so polite and caring, added to the experience. We made reservations.

Hopsewee does an excellent job of focusing on the life of enslaved Africans working on a rice plantation and the important knowledge and skills that they contributed (against their will) to building the economy in South Carolina. Touring both the house and the museum is highly recommended to get the best overall understanding. The museum holds a lot of artifacts from the archaeological surveying of the plantation grounds as well as detailed dioramas of what the grounds would have looked like. Tour guides are knowledgeable and focus on providing factual information. Highly recommend this site if you're looking for an unbiased historical tour.

The house tour was very informative. A lovely property. Museum and Tea House on site.

I visited on a spectacular day the weekend after Thanksgiving with my senior parents who have limited mobility. We enjoyed a perfect day visiting the new museum, taking both the Gullah and the house tour as well as having a fantastic late lunch at the tea room. I highly recommend spending a day at this stunning property and learning from the well informed staff and owners. My parents were able to manage well enough on the grounds using a rolling walker and canes. The food in tea room was top notch, reasonably priced with pleasant service. Enjoy a day stepping back in time and learning about the history of the plantation and people who left their mark on this land.

Our docent, Yancey McLeod, provided a lovely tour of the Lynch family home at Hopsewee Plantation. The three New Yorkers who accompanied me are great world travelers, and each of them said this was literally the best and most enjoyable tour they have ever experienced!I was raised in Memphis by Mississippi Delta people, and Yancey is what I think of as the epitome of a southern gentleman: gentle, kind, well-read, and a wonderful sense of humor. We appreciated the historical knowledge he imparted about the house, the Lynch family, and the mortise and tenon and long leaf pine knowledge that only a carpenter could share. But it was his humanity when speaking of the enslaved people at Hopsewee, and what they endured clearing the cypress swamps that especially endeared him to us.If you visit Hopsewee, be sure to schedule your tour with Yancey--it will be special!

Joy Mcmanus — Google review

Did the full package and really enjoyed it. Started with coffee in the tea room, then a very interesting talk from a Gullah woman. Lunch in the Tea room was very nice. Then a tour of the plantation house which was very interesting. After that we had wine and cheese down by the river with the owner RaeJean. Everyone at Hopsawee Plantation was very nice and informative. It was a really nice day and I would definitely recommend it

Very disappointed. Our 1st impression was not good. Hostess checking us in was rude and appeared to be annoyed. Her comment was "did we hear her explanation to the visitors before us because she doesn't want to repeat herself."The tour started late, and the tour guide wasn't the best. A horrible experience that should have been so much better. Felt unwelcome and unappreciated. No southern hospitality here.It is a beautiful home and location with some great history. I'd recommend anyone wanting to tour a plantation in that area, visit Hampton Plantation.

Would not recommend for children, the tour was informative but dry. The house was built in the 1700s, but the furnishings are as they were in 1970. The house has a lovely setting and grounds, I would save my money and walk the garden but not pay for the tour. Nice home and I appreciate their philanthropy, but it was not tour or museum material.

My husband and I booked a site visit with Kim at the Kaminski House and immediately fell in love with the location...honestly I don't know who fell in love with it first. We completed the tour and Lan took me onto the lawn, twirled me around and said "this is where I want to marry you."I have owned a wedding planning business in Charleston, SC for years and I immediately knew that I had found the location that I had to have for my wedding day.The property is gorgeous especially for a May wedding - I had to use it all and I did! The harbor walk area, the terrace, the front porch, the lawn - all were major key elements that made my wedding memorable.I had approximately 125 guests that fit nicely on the side terrace. Please know that I did not have any attendants except for my girls. Can you have more...yes but I wouldn't advise for more than 2 attendants on each side if you used my same setup. My husband and I visit Georgetown to enjoy Harbor Walk, but we always make a point to stop at the Kaminski House to relive the moment.

I just want to say that today’s visit was the very most special visit! I have forgotten the gentleman’s name but he works in the gift shop and gives tours as well. My son who is on the spectrum and has problems socially wanted to visit the house but he was scared that he could not do the hour tour with all of the people. So we were just going to look at the outside and the grounds and Collett a day. Well the gentleman offered to give us a private tour just for us! And he was so kind and even added some small little things to make Aiden feel comfortable. I just want to thank him very much because It really made his day. Normally when I tell him that no bad we can’t do that he gets very upset and agitated so this really made him feel good. Thanks again from the bottom of my heart!

The tour of the house was beyond my expectation!! Rachel gave us an incredible understanding of the property and the times it reflects. Of course, the holiday decorations added to the experience. Thank you!!

Nancy Stahl — Google review

It only takes about an hour to see the whole property but it's worth it, very pretty. Then hop on the boardwalk next door and go grab a bite, plenty of great restaurants to choose from.

Joey Chapman — Google review

I hadn't been to the Kaminski house in several years, so I decided to stop in and visit earlier this year. The house is beautiful inside and out, a Georgian Colonial two-over-two with 19th century additions, built on a bluff overlooking the bay and Georgetown's historic district. The decor and Christmas decorations (which were due to be taken down the day after our tour) are well-chosen to accentuate the historic aspects of the room they were in, whether that particular room was more interestingfor its 18th/19th century architecture or its 1940s/50s use.One thing I hadn't realized when I lived in the area is just how big a role the Kaminskis and their house played in some major events of the mid-20th century. Not to share any spoilers, but I can strongly recommend this tour to anyone interested in Colonial, Victorian, or WWII-era history.

The Rice Museum is a local historical museum located in the Old Market Building that offers exhibits and tours focused on the history of rice cultivation in Georgetown. The museum provides visitors with an opportunity to learn about the rich cultural heritage of rice through various displays, artifacts, and informative guides. The museum's knowledgeable staff brings to life the past events and timelines associated with rice farming that date back several centuries ago.

The staff was wonderful. Kind, interesting and very knowledgeable. The museum store is loaded with great items from local artisans. The museum itself was fascinating. We learned so much, helped by our guy who made it fun as well. It's a must do when visiting Georgetown.

For history buffs, this is a very cool place! We arrived close to closing so we couldn't see much but there are three levels to the museum. There is a fee to tour parts of the museum which I believe was $5 and I will definitely come back to do it!When we walked in, we were offered champagne or wine. It was delicious! I don't know if this was just a holiday thing so if you go and there's no drink, don't get mad!The artifacts were very cool! They showed artifacts from the Gullah culture which I've started showing an interest in knowing more about and the history of how important rice was to that particular part of SC's region. I didn't even know that there was a distinct version of rice popular to SC until I went here! I loved that there was actual rice that you could buy and try yourself! I wish they had some of that to sample!Worth me taking some vacation days off to tour the rest of Georgetown, SC and eventually Charleston!

We drove down from Myrtle Beach today to see the rice museum. Our tour person's name was Miss Jackie and she did a wonderful job. This was a well-spent hour and a half. To learn so much about the history of the rice industry, the plantations, the workers, the true history behind the plantations. The history of how rice affected this community and then how after the rice crop panned out how it changed. History here. Definitely well spent time. You really need to come see this and experience it.

The Rice museum tour was pleasurable surprise. Our guide Vinnie was amazing ! Not your cookie cutter tour guide she is full of knowledge and passion about Georgetown and its Rice industry. We cant say enough good things about her and her tour. As a historical scientist Vinnie gave us a different view on events and timelines. She also applied the past to our modern day. This tour was truly eye opening …and as she says throw away you history books.Well worth it. A boyle

After seeing the review of someone saying they pushed a one sided agenda through the tour, I knew I had to go. The only agenda they pushed was actual history and how our nation and it's wealth were built on the backs of the oppressed. So many amazing artifacts and our tour guide was super knowledgeable, personable and funny!

James Carroll — Google review

Excellent display of artifacts and history. However, we had an awful tour guide for the day. During our 45 minute tour, we began with a quick escort to the third floor of the house, where four of us individually sat and watched an informative outdated video on DVD regarding the local history of rice and slave plantations around Georgetown. This ultimately lead to the history of the Rice Museum towards the end. After the video, our tour guide scooped us up and left us alone on the second floor of the building. I had questions regarding several artifacts, including a blue uniform in frame, and were told several times by the tour guide "I'm not quite sure about that one". When the guide was passing through, we were unable to stop for photos and were consistently told to keep moving throughout specific areas. I also explained the history and significance of the Old Kings Highway (Hwy 17) to the guide and others, as the guide had no understanding of the artifacts or local history once they had mentioned they were recently working at the museum from the New Hampshire area. Somewhat shameful as a local visitor with a better understanding of the local history and culture. I believe several artifacts deserved much better preservation as they sit along the floor of the Rice Museum. These are original artifacts and signs which may have been taken down over the years to sit along the floor, while "Rebel Generals" continue to sit along the hanging walls with uniforms. A significant lack of empathy of the museum to the outside world as they discuss the local culture and history within the low country and both ends of the spectrum. Along with an educated lead and preservation of this location, I believe the Rice House has many hidden treasures and much potential with the history to appeal to the public from around the world. As a significant landmark within the present day United States, I enjoyed the visit and history of Georgetown.

Really good tour! I loved the self guided part and the boat that was on the top floor. If you like history, you need to go here.

After watching YouTube videos on this area and The Rice Museum, we are so grateful we were able to come and visit, experience everything the museum had to offer, look at the beautiful art work displayed, and lastly take a tour of the museum lead by Vinny. She is incredibly knowledgeable, passionate and dedicated to ensuring people understand the history related to this area. This museum and tour are a must see.

The Rice Museum is one of my favorite places in Georgetown. Art exhibits and carefully curated items for sale featuring South Carolina artists. Always a treat!

Lee Archambeault — Google review

Amazing history of the progression of the rice industry in this area. We took the tour and our guide was so well versed in the history. Loved every minute of it.

Hobcaw Barony is a non-profit organization that manages 16,000 acres of former plantation land. It features numerous historical buildings and runs various ecological programs. The reception center provides informative details about the history and current ecological studies being conducted on the site. Guided tours are available but must be arranged prior to visiting as there are limited hours. The docents leading the tour are highly knowledgeable, making for an enjoyable and informative experience overall.

Wonderful two hour introductory tour describing the history and rich natural environment of this area. Docents were knowledgeable and presented in a lively, interesting manner. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a fun, different activity with friends or family.

Hobcaw Barony is a must-see experience. Our tour guides both on trolley and in mansion shared tons of facts pointing out special items of interest throughout our tour. The history of the family and estate is so interesting. The surroundings are breathtaking. I can't wait to visit after Belle's home is restored.

This was a wonderful tour that I think a lot of people don't know about. The docents are extremely knowledgeable and the tour was fun and terrific

A very interesting historical site to visit and learn about. I strongly recommend taking a tour that focuses on the history of the slave villages. A very dark, but important history.

The tour was great and I took the sweet grass basket making class. Really enjoyed and everyone was so kind. Thanks for a great day!!

Trudy Springs — Google review

Hobcaw is said to be a native american word meaning "between the waters". Shell middens line the shores of Hobcaw's creeks and marshes. Today, it is a 16,000 acre research and wildlife reserve, with historic homes, villages, gardens, cemeteries, and slave cabins. There is a variety of staff-guided tours and programs. Hobcaw Barony is one of the few undeveloped tracts on the Waccamaw Neck.

What an amazing place to visit! The tour is loaded with information, and what a great experience to tour this property and hear how it is being used for research and preserved for future generations. Well worth the price of admission.

I was very disappointed when I showed up to tour on a Saturday following a call where I said I was coming tomorrow and wanted to be sure they were open. No one bothered to tell me all tours are guided only, and have limited hours.I arrived at 11: 15 and was told the 11 tour was canceled and you were not allowed to tour on your own- arrange a tour prior!!!The reception center was informative of the history and current ecological studies currently under way there now, and the staff was very friendly.I plan to return but will be better informed.

Botanical garden

Nature & Parks

Brookgreen Gardens, located 16 miles south of Myrtle Beach on Hwy 17S, is a unique public space that boasts a combination of botanical gardens and outdoor sculptures. The gardens cover over 9000 acres of land that was once a rice plantation, now converted into a subtropical garden paradise. It holds the largest collection of American sculpture in the country with seasonal blooms listed on its website. Visitors can explore the magical gardens and see exhibits featuring wild animals alongside beautiful sculptures.

An absolutely beautiful and enchanting place with friendly workers. Spent 4 hours there & I didn't even get to cover the whole place but it gives a sense of wonderment walking through the gardens and seeing the art throughout. Check out the welcome center as well because the workers in are lovely & can give you information about the grounds as well. BONUS, one ticket gets you in for 7 days so I can go back to check out the parts I haven't yet later this week! Also kudos to the groundskeepers as they maintain the gardens and land. They have done an amazing job!

What a surprising and beautiful place! Took a break from the beach to check it out on our last day in town. We spent 4 hours here and enjoyed the zoo, butterfly house and the sculptures. There was plenty of shade and areas out of the sun. Highly recommended this if you enjoy botanical gardens. The trees with the moss are totally breathtaking. The sculptures and gardens are so peaceful and beautiful. A great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas.

WOW WOW WOW! if you love sight seeing and admiring the great things nature has to offer, COME HERE! I highly recommend this place and you will not regret if you come here. It is very pretty and it's huge! They sometimes have live music and food trucks too. Come here and you will find yourself in what looks like a royal families garden!

Went to the night Art Show and it was brilliant. There were beautiful displays, magnificent lighting and lots of volunteers to help guide you. The statues were gorgeous lite up. Don't forget your bug spray! I'm showing just a few of the different sections. Well worth the $25 admission.

Beautiful gardens, sculptures, and views. A lot of it will inspire some introspection. Really enjoyed exploring this site, walking in relatively quiet nature, and stepping away from the crowds for a little while. If you are looking for non-beach related activities while visiting Myrtle Beach, look no further than the Brookgreen Gardens.

Lights of A Thousand Candles was the perfect start to the holiday season. It's an amazing sight to see. The festive spirit starts here. The pictures don't do it justice. You have to experience it in person. The staff do a great job organizing the parking, so it's easy in and out of the event. Get your tickets early. It's a popular venue, so get there early (when gates open).

Joann “Neyra” Ren — Google review

A very beautiful and peaceful garden experience. Was here for early spring on a 70 degree sunny day and everything was blooming and smelled wonderful. Very diversified range of wild flowers, plants, shrubs, trees and more! The zoo attached to is not the greatest, it hosts only localized animals of the south east only, minus a few such as the bald eagles. Which, had an awful enclosure in my opinion. There is a gift shop, restrooms, and a cafe area for snacks if needed.

Tyler Jordan — Google review

This is simply one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Staff was happy, knowledgeable, and helpful. They all seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs. Stay out of the water. There really are alligators in there as stated on the caution signs. We did the creek excursion, it was amazing. Worth every penny.

Tessa Gutierrez — Google review

A beautiful place to spend sometime at, during the day. Very reasonably priced. It was peaceful strolling along the path seeing statues and flowers trees. My wife and I enjoyed our time together taking pictures being together in the gardens. There are some amazing sculptures of flocks of birds in flight in one of the buildings where the artist has them so balanced and connected they you don't even notice. I only know because it was explained to me. I posted a couple of pictures for you to see, but I highly recommend seeing for yourself.

John Leever — Google review

The gardens are beautiful - we appreciated that many of the plants were marked helping us to identify several that we did not know.. Unfortunately we only had 2 hours, so we did not get to the zoo area and had to rush through a couple of the gardens. We would gladly go back if we are ever in the area. Oh, and the ticket is for 7 day admission! Wow! That’s a deal.

Danielle Noe — Google review

Spectacularly beautiful gardens & sculptures. 3 hours wasn’t nearly enough, we will have to come back someday. If you’re staying in the area your ticket is good for a week and if you like this type of venue it would be good to plan for at least a couple hours over a couple days. We kinda had to rush through and it was hot as heck but this place is a true gem.

Jeff Schlicht — Google review

BrookGreen is so beautiful! The park is very well laid out, and has something for everyone. If you like animals, there is a small zoo and butterfly garden; plus there are plenty of opportunities to see wildlife in and around the whole park. Tons of flowers, and pretty sculptures all over the park. You will need multiple days to see everything proper.

Jess Littlefield — Google review

Lovely Garden. Well maintained and always has flowers whenever we have gone. The tickets are currently $22 for adults, there are discounts for AAA members, military, over 65. There are a lot of sculptures to enjoy, butterfly garden ( open only till 2 pm), boat tours( additional 10$ per person and only till certain time of the day), a small zoo. There are picnic tables and also shuttle between parking lots. You can easily spend a day or more. The ticket is valid for 7 days. If you are in the area, you can go multiple times. There is also Yoga in the park on Saturdays. Such a nice place, very peaceful. Plenty of parking spaces.

Brookgreen Gardens located in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina is an awesome place. We attended the gardens in the winter time at night when they were having their 1,000 candles display. Which is very impressive but also the thousands of lights on the live Oaks are just amazing. We had friends visiting from out of state and we all went. We had a great time. This is a must see. Expect to spend a minimum of 90 minutes to see everything. We could have easily spent at least another hour but we had dinner reservations so we decided to leave. We hope to be able to go back in the daylight when we have more time to really experience this beautiful place. We highly recommend it.

Richard Mullens — Google review

I highly recommend Brookgreen gardens! My friends, and I had so much fun walking around the sculpture garden, visiting the low country zoo, and just checking out all the art deco in the art gallery! There’s currently an art deco expose that just opened today! At the “zoo”‘ I was so at ease seeing the excellent treatment of the animals, which is a treat if you’ve visited any other animal exhibits/activities in the Myrtle beach area (please don’t). I highly recommend giving Brookgreen gardens a visit!

Brooke Wilson — Google review

Just incredible. The combination of culture, nature, and art is unsurpassed. Immaculately kept by dedicated volunteers. They are knowledgeable, friendly, and all over the property to help you understand what you're looking at. It's worth twice the price of admission. The grounds, the galleries, the zoo, all a must see when you are in the area. It's one of the coolest places I've seen in a long time.

Larry H. — Google review

Filled with art sculptures. Beautiful grounds. Very well kept flowers, trees, etc. Ticket entry is good for seven days. Lots of walking. We used our entry ticket twice the week we were in Myrtle Beach. We all agreed the place was lovely, but we thought the zoo has no place at these gardens. The animals are in small and poor conditions. The enclosed aviary had dead fish floating in the water. Not just one or two. Lots of dead fish. The enclosed swimming tank for the otter was heart breaking. Their outside area stunk. Didn’t see the foxes or deer. The owls looked pitiful. The animals really should be sent to an establishment that is designed to help and care for these creatures. Just let this be the beautiful outside museum of art that it is.

Todd Nolan — Google review

Beautiful place. Amazing sculptures, trees, flowers, everything. Very clean and well kept up. Staff is nice!the gift shop prices were way too high though. Sadly the butterfly garden was closed but tons of animals to look at! Definitely worth the stop!

June 25, 1030-130. What a beautiful place & very nice people. The gallery, the gardens, the zoo; just perfect. Wish we had more time to ride the boat & just meander. Sharing picture of the sculpture that had the most contagious smile - sure made us all happy. Thank you all & stay blessed.

Marie Argonza — Google review

We attended for the Summer Light exhibit. We arrived early enough that the lines weren't too bad for the food trucks to get something to eat before walking the grounds. Checking out most of the statues and being able to read the descriptions while it was still light outside was a good idea too. Once the sun went down, the light displays were really impressive.

Dave Wombat — Google review

We spent two days enjoying the ground at Brookgreen Gardens and still didn't see everything. The gardens are beautiful and expansive. The sculptures on the grounds each have an amazing story. The history of the Gardens and it's founder are very intriguing. The staff and volunteers were all knowledgeable and helpful. This is a must see.

Kory Lewis — Google review

Reasonable entrance fee and so much to see. Animals, amazing gardens, fountains and ponds, as well as inspired art, there is something for everybody and you can go back on your tickets for several days. Please make this a stop on your visit it's been one of the best parts of our vacation.

Amy Ramses — Google review

Went to see the amazing display of Christmas lights and candles. It was truly awesome. I did have to purchase gloves and a hat at the gift shop, and boy was I glad they had them for sale. I do wish they would have had little hot chocolate stands or something along the paths but they did sell it at the very end. It was a little confusing to figure out if we got to see everything but it was a great start to the holidays. Great experience with my daughter and granddaughter.

Teresa Holmes — Google review

We had a great time walking through the gardens, viewing the sculptures, learning about the low country enslavement history, and strolling the native zoo. Though $22 seemed a bit much at first, we thought it was well worth it, even in the off season (maybe even moreso with the smaller crowds). All of the volunteers we met were pleasant and helpful. Highly accessible for those who need accommodations

Phil Hofmeyer — Google review

What an enchanting experience! 13 of us ventured into the lovely gardens! The sunset was wonderful! The staff were so helpful. We enjoyed strolling and sipping beverages as we enjoyed the breathtaking, sculptures, plants, trees, lights and decorations! If you want to be in awe, this is the place to be! So glad we were able to secure tickets and share such a fabulous time that we’ll talk about forever!

Very exciting, the otters were so cute (*’(OO)’*). They are very playful but they run away with each other a lot, the gray fix is so hard to see, the gift show is so preppy and I got a opossum, on the way in we saw a couple of 🦃turkeys. But did not take a picture of them. ENJOY YOUR STAY!! 😍😍😍😍

Nature & Parks

Museum

Huntington Beach State Park is a serene haven for nature enthusiasts, boasting a secluded beach and campground. Visitors can partake in tours of the Moorish-style mansion on-site. The park offers plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors, including walking along the jetty during low tide and biking through its scenic areas. After sundown, only resident campers are allowed on the beach, providing an exclusive experience for those who stay overnight. Families with children can enjoy educational activities at the nature center.

In my opinion, much better than Myrtle Beach or Seaside Beach. So much less crowded and a lot less things touching your legs and feet as you swim. It's a very beautiful place to go for walks on as well. Its also a really great place to dig a hole in the sand, everyone favorite beach activity. It's probably one of my favorite beaches I've been to.

ACT Plays Stuff — Google review

This park was great and family friendly. The beach access was close enough to walk and the views were incredible. There are many large open green spaces for the children to run and play together. The oak trees are beautiful. Shore fishing was a huge perk for the family. The whole family enjoyed the self guided tour of the castle too!The only downfall was how early the park store closed when looking to purchase some fire wood.

Tiffany Semerano — Google review

Huntington Beach State Park is a fantastic destination with beaches that are always clean and well-maintained. The park's efforts to keep the area pristine really shine through, making it a beautiful place to visit. However, it's worth noting that it can get quite crowded, especially during peak times, which might make it challenging to find a spot to relax with your family. Despite this, the park's natural beauty and cleanliness make it a must-visit location.

Joey Lowry — Google review

This is our go-to place at Myrtle Beach to spend a day by the ocean. It's beautiful, clean and never overcrowded. You can count on a relaxing day and then there is a place to rinse off sand; and facilities to shower, change and restrooms.

Carla Psalms23 (Carla Psalm23) — Google review

This is a heavenly oasis for nature lovers!! Oh the birds and peaceful solitude!! The jetty is a memorable walk at the right tide level and the beach feels so private because after sunset it’s only resident campers who can go there. Some campsites can hear the ocean. It’s beautiful! The nature center offers great activities for kids! This park is a fantastic place to ride your bike! We have made many happy memories here and can’t wait to go back! Well worth the daily price of admission! One of the most wonderful special gems on the east coast.

K G — Google review

Great beach and much more. The walk to the jetty however was a long one even for somebody in prime physical condition like myself 😄. It took a while so we didn't get to check out the other spots at the park. See my photos for some of the spectacular views and empty beaches. Very cool beach that is natural with dunes and no houses or condos.

Eddie Gebhard — Google review

What a beautiful place to spend the day. Both North and South Beach areas have good clean restrooms and showers, although North Beach is quieter and no climb to bathrooms. So much wildlife and bird watching, nature trails, bike trails and a Interpretive center. Gift shop, ice and snacks at the South parking area. This park is very popular, get there early or late.I was only disappointed by the speeding cars throughout the park. The narrow roads must accommodate pedestrians, bikers and cars, but many cars zip along like they're on the highway, ignoring crosswalks. I wish there were more speed limit signs posted (and speed lowered!), traffic calming humps, and rangers stopping people to educate.

mrsbananaslug — Google review

Our favorite place to camp. It's stunningly beautiful and clean. We actually prefer the old campground to the new full hookup side bc it's more of the "camping" vibe. All the sites look pretty easy to get into. We have a 38' and this place is much easier to back into compared to other parks in the area. Parents please watch your kids on the trails; there are alligators. :)

D Drummer — Google review

Beautiful spot! We arrived just in time for the alligator tour, which was educational and so cool. (Mosquitoes were TERRIBLE, you can't have too much bug spray). Took a very brief walk to the beach, but it didn't disappoint. Atalaya is not your typical "castle" but a very interesting piece of history. Will definitely go back on our next adventure to the area.

Crystal — Google review

If you are looking for shells, this is the beach to go to! Myrtle Beach Park had some nice shells but when we went they were far and few between. At Huntington, it’s shells galore! I’ve taken a pic and a couple of vids of what we got over the course of about an hour. We are truly happy we went and highly recommend. The cost is $8 per adult and it’s well worth it. If you are in the Myrtle Beach area, it’s a bit out of the way but worth the trip down.

Matt K. — Google review

A lovely place to visit. The nature center is interesting. We love the wildlife on both sides of the causeway. Beach and picnic areas and facilities are excellent. And the historic mansion is amazing.

Bob Bennett — Google review

This place was lovely! We enjoyed everything from the beach to ice cream to the playground and castle tour. The beach wasn’t too busy and the water was perfect for a swim. Great place for adults and kids… plus clean bathrooms! Checking out the alligators and storks after was a huge bonus. We would love to come back!

Elizabeth Schenk — Google review

This was an amazing little getaway on a public beach. You could see alligators, go swimming, little play area for the kids, few picnic table spots, the little old house/castle was awesome. My family and I didn't camp here but that's also an option as well.

Eddie Hankison — Google review

Our favorite beach! Easy access to the beach from parking area. Beach is clean and of you're willing to walk, the jetty offers great fishing. During low tide, we found amazing marine wildlife!

Lindsey Jones — Google review

We been coming here for over 4 years now, great place to camp and have the family together. Not a lot of people on the beach if you walk 5 minutes any direction from the access walkway. Only downside it is hard to get a camp site we had to book ours a year in advance. Beach best around! Clean restrooms and a nice little store. Stop by the castle and take a little tour worth the money. Have fun and enjoy!

Edgar Flores — Google review

Beautiful beach and swamp area in one park. We saw alligators and many species of birds, toured the summer home of the couple that made Brook Green Gardens a lovely exhibit of sculptures, and a lovely beach to enjoy. They had a track to the beach which made wheelchair access easier! We also rode through the campground which looked like a great place to camp!

Belinda Tucker Phillips — Google review

A rare Snow Goose was hanging out in the marsh! But damage from Hurricane Ian has closed the trails and the boardwalk. Unfortunately, these were the only reasons we returned last weekend. There is nothing on their website anout the damage and the very nice man at the ticket booth did not mention it either. This is a great park and visiting the castle and beach is really neat, but for us the trail and boardwalk over the marsh are the biggest draws.

Beth McK — Google review

Loved it. $8 Park entrance gets you into the park and your receipt can also get you in to Myrtle Beach State Park the same day. There are bathrooms a gift shop lovely beach outside shower and playground. You can also visit Atalaya Castle for $2 per person entry fee which is located inside the park. Highly recommend it. Hard to imagine someone living there. They also give you a map of the grounds. I was only able to upload 50 pic🙁

Stayed in an RV campsite w/friends for a week. Great place! Beautiful beach, lots of nice places to watch birds. There’s a nature center and free activities like a bird watching or a tour ($2) of the mansion called Atalanta. Across highway 17 is Brookgreen gardens. Also there is an ice cream shop with really great ice cream!

Catherine Baker — Google review

While visiting Huntington Beach we discovered Atalaya, the winter home of the founders. What a beautiful place to visit and tour. There's a fee to enter park and a separate entry fee of $2 to visit Atalaya Castle. Well worth the $2 to explore the castle & grounds and learn the history of the owners and their creation of Brookgreen Gardens nearby.

Fabulous state park! Photographers' paradise with wide beach, marsh, ponds, birds aplenty and alligators! RV camping is nice too. Dogs can go to all beaches except bird sanctuary area.

I loved this place. If you enjoy nature and it's wildlife, this is the place to visit. We saw different types of birds, turtles, and 2 alligators. It was quiet and peaceful too. I plan on returning to camp there next year. We just did a one day visit this time. Oh, and don't forget to hike to the Octopus tree.

Stacy Hands — Google review

I really enjoy this state park. It's not huge but big enough to spend few hours exploring then relax or play on the beach. Very clean, nice bathrooms and a play area and picnic tables. Lots of alligators along the causeway plus birds and crabs to watch.

I think the crabs were my favorite, as well as the eyeballs! It was a bit chilly, but that's just life.Totally worth the cost of entry! Especially for me, since Tristan paid! But that's because I got us at the other park a few days earlier when we were geocaching!Safe travels,KG! 🤘🏽💚🤘🏽💚🤘🏽💚

Huntington Beach State Park is a wonderful and beautiful place to visit from camping, going to the beach, or even discovering the history behind the Atalaya Castle. They do have a very kid friendly Nature center with fantastic information. It does cost an entry free to get into the state park and as well as $2 each if you want to go look at the castle. We were so lucky to get to see a bunch of dazzling birds from the Birds of Prey group as well that day. I can't wait to go back and probably will do so again next month! 😁

Bait shop

Family-friendly seasonal fishing venue, with a tackle shop, an arcade & a cafe.

Fun place to check out. Huge pier extending out into the ocean. Cool place to go fishing or to watch others fish. Small shop inside where you can buy bait, tackle, or rent poles and tackle. Arcade for the kids, and 2 bars for the adults. One out at the end of the pier that does live music and dancing. Good place for a stroll both on and under the pier with a loved one, or let the kids play while the adults people watch.

Genesis Garza — Google review

Had an Awesome time fishing! Plenty of room. Met alot of friendly people willing to share what had been biting for the day!! Nice, little bar and grill if you are hungry or thirsty!! Even has an arcade for the kids to play!! Great time!!

Leroy Hicks Jr — Google review

A must visit whether your a tourists or local. Pier is nice and peaceful with plenty of benches and spots to fish. Has a outdoor bar with live music at certain times, access to the beach, arcade and shop inside.

Brandon Jackson — Google review

We have four children, we love going to the Pier at Garden City because it's more of a small town vibe and not nearly as crazy as the commercial area of Myrtle Beach. My husband and I have been coming here for little vacations for the last 14 years. We'll definitely be back!

Jenifer Wattenschaidt — Google review

Is a BIG beach ⛱️ beyond imagination. The cool winds were refreshing, and the ocean waters were cold to the touch by the feet. And the beautiful sirens you can see and appreciate with respect. 😉

Jaime D. — Google review

Arcade and ice cream for the kids. A co*cktail bar for adults. Fish off the pier or just enjoy the outside tables, chairs, and benches to relax in the sun and sign up for a little outside karaoke. Good Beach, fun for the whole family. Great view to take beach pictures from. You may even see a tiger shark off the pier.

Dawn Skipper — Google review

The pier is a great place to relax and perfect for families. The pier is also a popular for fishing. Great place to visit, interested in fishing, dining, or just taking in the beautiful views.

Kedo’s Travel — Google review

I was here on Wednesday so the crowds were very low, very few fishing. It was windy but very nice. The Arcade area was open but nothing else on the pier. The picture was from the evening before as the rain was almost on us.

Jenny Johnson — Google review

Boring, unless you like to fish, drink, and listen to karaoke or an occasional band. For being rebuilt, it’s in pretty ragged shape. It does give you a nice view of the beach, but nothing else is there and parking is very limited. If you plan on fishing there, don’t dare catch a shark!

Scott Clifton — Google review

This is the third time I've been in this area on vacation and I love garden City pier. This is kid friendly with an arcade, a pier to fish from. Having some nice drinks and listening to karaoke was awesome.

Melissa Collins — Google review

Beautiful view!We took a stroll out on the pier in the evening just before the sun went down. I just love the idea of walking out so far over the ocean! Umbrellas set up to sit under, people fishing…a relaxed, laid back time for anyone especially those on vacation. Water and shoreline looked beautiful on both sides. Grabbed some pics of my family and the water.Hit the arcade after for some fun with the kids. You will definitely want to check it out if visiting. No charge and a beautiful view!

Dede King — Google review

Awesome pier! Great experience!! They have live music & karaoke! The Cafe food is awesome!! You can fish, crab, or just hang & watch the sharks! You may even get lucky & see a Sea Turtle!!! They have all the bait you need to fish! Souvenirs & a great arcade for the kiddos or the kids at heart!

Stephanie Spivey — Google review

I visited the pier with my son and his girlfriend. We spent some time in the arcade. Which I haven't done in many years. Skeeball was our game of choice and coincidentally, I hadn't lost my touch. We walked to the end of the pier, enjoying the warmth of the day and the bright sunshine, the views of the ocean never disappoint. I took quite a view videos of the sharks and the jellyfish. It was a lovely day indeed. I would definitely look forward to my next visit.

Michele Hernandez — Google review

Seriously the best pier ever! Love the bar on the pier with all kinds of drink options. They do karaoke everyday and we loved it so much that we went a few days during our trip. They also have bands daily. Such a great pier with lots of shaded umbrellas and plenty of places to sit. Love how they don’t charge to enter. Check this pier out you won’t regret it!

Bailey Alexander — Google review

We visited during the day. It was very nice on the pier. They ha e umbrellas and benches down the length of the pier, people fishing, a bar or something st the end with covered patio with tables and chairs. Saw a lit of jellyfish in the water and a couple of sharks! Sharks frequent the pier. It was nice and breezy up there. We had a great visit just looking around.

I love Pieradise, The Pier at Garden City. Loved it the first time I walked on it 20+ years, ago!

Robert Womack — Google review

We have been coming here for years and years. The memories that come back with each visit are what summers are made of.The arcade games are pricey, $20 for the old time photo booth but it's worth it for such an authentic beach town experience.

kimberly mcintosh — Google review

Love it here. You can get food and drinks and sit out on the pier and enjoy your night. They have live music every night up front and fishing off farther down the pier.

Jeremy Kinton — Google review

Fun atmosphere. Beautiful to look out over the ocean. Mixed drinks VERY weak. (I got a Miami Vice) Don't spend the extra money. But everything else was great!

joann mccarter — Google review

Nice place! Beach as far as the eye can see, clean and with fine sand. The pontoon has a bar at the end with music. I don't know the opening time. All along the pontoon you can fish, there are benches and parasols to make you comfortable. There are also chipping stations. Basically, the best.

Zoo

Wild cats, exotic birds & more than 100 other species are displayed at this small zoo.

Great farm/zoo!! Took our 7 year old grandson and he had a blast. The animals are NOT mistreated or abused at all!! We got to feed many animals. It took about 2 1/2 hours to go thru the entire zoo. Well worth the $12 adult admission price.

Marji Zambrano — Google review

What a great place!! Cheep to get in with fabulous walking trails all through. They have a great selection of animals with a lot of them roaming around. Your up close and can feed most from your hand. They had some big cats that your right up close to. We ended up staying for hours enjoy being with nature. We would highly recommend this wonderful zoo if you have kids or even if your a big kid.

Harold Anderson — Google review

Would give zero stars if able. I have read the good reviews posted about this place and can’t for the life of me understand what they saw wonderful about these conditions. The only thing I can gather is that they were either confusing it with another zoo, are fake reviews, or were high as a kite walking through the place. There was nothing enjoyable. My kids and I left feeling sad and upset at the conditions these animals are forced to live in. Social monkeys that usually live in groups are living alone in small cages. All animals looked sick and malnourished, with many looking stressed or like they had bad health problems. The bears (pictured) and various other animals were missing large areas of fur. The monkey pictured below had eyes swollen shut. The Lynx was in a small 10x10 foot cage with no where to climb. All enclosures/exhibits were filthy and run down. 99% of the enclosures were WAY too small for the type of animal it was housing. It was sickening to see large cats and bears with no space to run or climb. No food or water was seen in any enclosure and it was a really hot day we were there. I have been to many zoos where animals get excited for food, but these animals fought each other to get food from us as if they were starving. I wish there was a way to get this place shut down and the animals moved somewhere they can be treated better and thrive.

Kristen — Google review

I would give no stars if I could! I wish I had read reviews before going. I'm shocked that this place has been allowed to remain open! Absolutely disgusted over the state of these poor animals. Not only are the enclosures dirty, tiny and rundown, they're also lacking anything to engage the animals. No trees for the monkeys, some of them are in sheds indoors, the bears have either muddy water, concrete or about a 6 foot cage of mud to live in, the lions have a small concrete rundown cage with no way to see the sun. The animals look so unhappy. I'm contacting PETA to see if there is anything they can do. I'm including pics of the grounds, enclosures and animals.

My family went here the week of July 10th. The reviews online made me very skeptical about what we were going to see. My son had his heart set on going so we gave it a chance. I think that the employees really care about the animals. You can tell that the majority of the animals are well fed and cared for correctly. You can purchase feed at the register to give to the animals and you can definitely tell that the animals are used to that. The animals are really cute. We loved how the peaco*cks just roamed free!My first area of concern is that the zoo does need some repairs. Some of the buildings are run down and it could use some TLC. My second issue is that the map isn’t the easiest to read and you can end up going in a bunch of circles. My third problem is that it’s called a zoo but there are a ton of goats - all different kinds that you see. I would say that the majority of animals are goats. They are adorable though. Finally, it is advertised to see tigers but there were no tigers to see. That was disappointing. It was supposed to be one of the last animals we saw and then there were none. It was a let down.

Kacie Workman — Google review

Visited last week for the first time, had my 8mo daughter & my 14yo neice & we had a lot of fun! The ladies in the front were pleasant! Hand feeding the animals was great & the peaco*cks roaming freely was a sight! The only thing is the SC heat makes for a short visit diring the summer if your not properly packed! All animals (besides the monkeys honestly) looked well kept, just hot!! The big birds were my favorite!! Definitely something we will be back to enjoy!

Victoria Manken — Google review

After reading reviews we weren't expecting much, but it actually turned out to be a pretty cool experience! The zoo is a little run down, but they had more animals than I expected; the lions and bear were a surprise. You could also feed most of the animals. Don't expect a meticulously landscaped and paved park with state-of-the- art exhibits. You will do quite a bit of walking on dirt paths with tree roots along the way.

Tenn Tea — Google review

Beautiful zoo. You get the opportunity to pet so many more types of animals than a standard zoo or petting farm. The bears exhibit was sadly small but all of the other exhibits were large and the animals looked very happy! Feed is cheap and well worth it.

Julie Swain — Google review

I read the reviews and paid attention to the negative reviews but went anyway. 1) Do the hábitat.for the monkeys, bears, and lions seem to small but later research show they meet FDA standards. 2) Is some items run down? Yes but all in all the property is maintainedIn conclusión do yourself a favor and visit. More visitors means more money to upgrade and renovado. While I was there the staff was doing routi e maintenance and even went out and took pictures of the peaco*cks with babies that were walking freely around the property. The zoo only got a 4 stars because of the few exhibirse that needed upgrading

Water park

Water & Amusem*nt Parks

Outdoor, summertime water park with soaring slides, pools & a winding go-kart racetrack.

Amazing water park. Kids enjoyed a lot whole day. Parking is free. Entire park is neat and clean. Food court, lockers and so on. Outside food are not allowed, Food priced little higher, but that's fine. Locker are located in two different location, one outsider the water park entrance and other one inside the water park. Multipe restrooms are located inside the park. All rides operated on the day we went. Wave pool little disappointed. But all other rides are amazing and great!

Nirmal Krishnan — Google review

Fun for ALL ages...however I recommend...Wear watershoes... The pavement is hot and hurts.... you will be glad you did!!!

Melissa Roberts — Google review

The staff was friendly and attentive considering their young age. A little run down as far as painting but water was clean and we had a lot of fun especially in the lazy river. Wasn't too crowded most week days

Amber Fisher — Google review

Awesome fun for the whole family! So much for the littles to do! Will definelty be back on our next vacation!

Misty Ledford — Google review

Went for the day during vacation. Kids had a blast from start to finish. Staff is so friendly and helpful. The line for food was crazy but if you need a break from the sun it works out well. Prices are very reasonable. Bought a couple pairs of flip flops and some sunglasses and they were not only great quality but very reasonable. I thoroughly enjoyed the lazy river😉If you're looking for a family friendly activity in SC, this is it.

Carolyn Cotter — Google review

Great place. We to free ticket from our hotel. Looked at the prices and I was shocked. Very expensive. In my opinion not so worth it. But could be fun to go as a family experience. Water sounds are big but have height rules some follow some don't. My 5 yr old rode one of the tallest slides I'll post pics. Pretty good day. But was worn out after 3 hrs.

CASEY DENT (Cashes) — Google review

So much fun! Lazy river is wide and long with lots of water features to cool you off. Plenty of fun slides to ride and a wave pool. Two separate sections for little ones, a lagoon with waterfalls and slides and a kiddie pool with slides and water features. Food options everywhere along with accomodations for anyone needing a shade or last minute suit. Love WW&W!!!!

andrea simpkins — Google review

We got to enjoy the water park for free through our hotel package! We had a lot of fun and they have a pool of red eared sliders! They’re huge and they all swim to where you are because you get to feed them! Great place to relax, I recommend you try “The Dark Hole” it was fast and scary in a good way aha! Going to mark this as one of the spots we visit every year when we come to the beach!

Ashley Espino — Google review

First time visiting Myrtle Beach and had a great time at this water park. There's something for everyone to have fun in the water. The whole family had a great time including grandparents. Staff was very professional and attentive.

Kelvin8r — Google review

I got tickets online. Print them out at the house. Made it really easy to get in. Have locker and cabana rentals. Big waterpark with gocarts, mini golf, bumper boats. Good place for the family. Take sunblock and be ready to climb some steps. Lol.
