What happens if you let cinnamon rolls rise too long? ›

Can cinnamon rolls rise for too long? Yes definitely! If you let your cinnamon rolls rise for too long you can over-proof them. This can lead to dense rolls or rolls that collapse after baking.

How long before a cinnamon roll goes bad? ›

If you store them like conventional breads, where they're tightly wrapped and in a bread bag in the bread box, they'll last between 3 and 5 days, but you shouldn't go beyond that, or they'll start to taste stale. If you store them in the fridge, they'll last a bit longer, perhaps up to 7 days.

Are cinnamon rolls supposed to be gooey in the middle? ›

The rolls should be set in the middle, with a slight spring when pressed in the center, but they should not be too soft. If they are still soft, they need a little more time to bake. After baking is complete, remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes in the pan. Glaze with frosting and enjoy!

Why aren't my cinnamon rolls gooey? ›

The key to making a perfectly ooey, gooey cinnamon roll isn't about the spice — it's about the butter. When you are preparing cinnamon rolls, you should always work with slightly softened butter rather than rock-hard or melted butter. In a dough, the butter is an important softener that keeps the dough supple.

Why are my cinnamon rolls still doughy? ›

Are your cinnamon rolls too doughy? Jenni Field of Pastry Chef Online shared with us that it could be because you packed them in the pan too tightly. "This results in them getting super crowded as they rise and sometimes pushing up like volcanoes while they bake, making them doughy and dense in the centers," she said.

How do you know rolls are done? ›

Use a thermometer (I like the Thermapen) to assess the doneness of pan breads, freeform loaves, and soft rolls. A temperature of 190°F at the center will yield bread that's fully baked (soft and moist) but not over-baked (tough and dry).

Should store bought cinnamon rolls be refrigerated? ›

Do you need to refrigerate cinnamon rolls? Unfrosted cinnamon rolls do not need to be refrigerated and will keep best at room temperature. Iced cinnamon rolls, and especially rolls with cream cheese frosting, should be stored in the fridge.
