I’m always looking for a way to boost my energy & speed up recovery when I do workout. My husband is a professional athlete & he is equally obsessed with LMNT. What Is LMNT Electrolytes
LMNT is a zero-sugar electrolyte drink mix without refined sugar, fillers, or artificial coloring, which are all often found in other popular sports drinks. LMNT electrolytes are formulated to support hydration while replenishing essential minerals lost through our sweat during physical activity. Each of their 9 flavors contains sodium, potassium, & magnesium in specific ratios to help maintain electrolyte balance in the body. Along with water, our bodies need sodium, calcium, magnesium, potassium, & chloride. These minerals, which are called electrolytes, help to regulate a variety of processes within the human body.
For example sodium helps with muscle contraction & fluid balance. Potassium helps with blood pressure & healthy heart function. LMNT electrolytes are low-carb, sugar-free, keto friendly, paleo, vegan, & gluten free!
As mentioned, LMNT has 9 different flavors that are all so different from other electrolyte products I’ve tried. There’s Grapefruit Salt, Citrus Salt, Watermelon Salt, Raspberry Salt, Orange Salt, Raw Unflavored, Mango Chili, Chocolate Caramel, & Chocolate Salt. The taste obviously varies depending on the flavor you choose but generally, they are very refreshing & have a salty taste. I don’t personally think they are too salty but I’ve heard from others that they thought they were very salty. The saltiness is intentional because it designed to replenish sodium lost through physical activity. I enjoyed the taste right away but for some, I could see how it might be more of an acquired taste!
LMNT Electrolytes Ingredients
I really love that LMNT transparently discloses their ingredients for every flavor. You can find a full list of ingredients & nutrition facts by visiting the LMNT website & scrolling through product images. Below is the ratio of key ingredients to make their “Raw Unflavored” base.
- ½ teaspoon salt (provides ~1 g sodium)
- 500 mg potassium citrate powder (provides ~200 mg potassium)
- ¼ teaspoon of magnesium malate (provides ~60 mg magnesium)
LMNT does use citric acid, stevia, & natural flavors in most of their flavors, except the Raw Unflavored LMNT. Their citric acid is rigorously tested & doesn’t contain corn. It’s used to create acidity which gives the flavors their refreshing & fruity taste. If you’d like to read more about their use of citric acid, you can do so here. They even found citric acid to have health benefits such as enhanced mineral absorption, kidney health, & increased energy production!
Regarding the natural flavors, LMNT uses naturally-occurring aromatic chemicals, essential oils, botanical extracts, or essences derived solely from the ingredients that name each of their flavors, which are either distilled or extracted from said fruits, roots, & spices used in each flavor variant they offer.
Stevia also makes up a minimal percentage (≤5%) of most LMNT flavors. A traditional Stevia packet contains 1g of Stevia, while an LMNT stick pack has 70% less Stevia than a 1-gram packet of Stevia.
Best Time To Take LMNT Electrolytes
I’ve drank my LMNT Electrolytes at all hours of the day, but most days, I drink it first thing in the morning. I find that I wake up & crave it. Morning consumption is definitely most common. That & before workouts. LMNT recommends to start drinking it about 30 minutes prior to working out. When it comes to electrolytes, it’s better to replace them ahead of time vs after a workout. My husband is a professional athlete & he drinks them before & after a workout. My suggestion would be to try drinking LMNT at a few different hours during the day & see what feels best for you. There’s really not a “wrong time” to enjoy them!
When it comes to how many LMNT’s I drink a day, it really depends. On average, I have 1 a day. But there have been some days where I’ve had up to 3. I really just listen to what my body tells me. My husband is very active & has about 2 a day. The recommended amount per day is based on individual needs. Most people find 1-2 LMNT packets per day optimal.

Each LMNT electrolyte drink mix comes in convenient single-serving packets which makes them super easy to travel with & enjoy on the go! Just add it to water & you’re good to go! It dissolves with no clumps! I prefer mixing mine in my 24 oz Hydroflask. If you find the full serving too salty, try adding just half of the packet! I mix one full packet into my water, about 1-2 times a day & I love it.
In my opinion, LMNT is absolutely delicious! My body actually craves them! My favorite three flavors are Watermelon Salt, Grapefruit Salt, & Orange Salt. To compare the taste to Liquid IV, because I know that’s another popular electrolyte brand, I much much prefer the taste of LMNT. I haven’t tried all of their flavors, but to me, Liquid IV tasted much more artificial.

If you want a flavor without stevia or flavor, the Raw Unflavored is the way to go. I have tried the Raw Unflavored but prefer the flavors. The only flavor I’m not crazy about is the Mango Chili but I haven’t played around with it enough. I’ve heard it makes a great mocktail mixer if you add it to sparkling water! I’m also a big fan of the chocolate flavors especially in the winter months! I love making hot chocolates at night with them!
Are LMNT Electrolytes Good For You
I’ve been drinking LMNT since the Fall of 2022 & they quickly became a non-negotiable in my wellness routine. Not only are they delicious, but I love how simple & clean the ingredients are. It’s rare that I don’t start my day with an LMNT in my water bottle. As mentioned above, I first wanted to try LMNT while I was completing my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certification. The days were really long & I had to be sharp both mentally & physically. But as soon as I tried LMNT, I was instantly hooked!
I not only drank them before, after, & during yoga, but I began drinking them throughout the day too. When it comes to daily benefits, I definitely feel more alert when I start my day with an LMNT. There are a few different ways to purchase LMNT. I would recommend getting started with their small Variety Pack so you can try a few flavors before committing to a full box of 30 packets.
